Are you ready to explore the world of aerospace and defense? Do you want to learn from and collaborate with some of the greatest minds in the industry? At RTX, our internships, co-ops and full-time careers provide an exceptional foundation to work on complex problems, advance your skills and create a safer, more connected world. Discover opportunities to make a difference at RTX.

What You Will Do

This 8-12 week internship program is designed to empower growth by exploring the dynamic nature of the defense industry through the Andover Environmental, Health & Safety team. This team is responsible for providing services and solutions to safeguard people and protect the environment.

Throughout the summer, you will be able to expand your knowledge of Environmental, Health & Safety as a whole while also gaining unprecedented exposure to leadership along the way. You’ll have opportunities to meet with other intern program participants, engage with senior leaders on topics of innovation, leadership and technology, and connect through an individual mentorship program. Our ultimate goal is to bring great talent to Raytheon. All rising junior interns will have the opportunity to be considered for a returning internship or part time work as you continue your studies.

What You Will Learn

  • The intern will be focused on propelling the site’s environmental compliance and sustainability programs.  RTX has committed to the following 2030 sustainability goals:
  • 46% reduction in greenhouse gases
  • 15% reduction in water use
  • In support of these goals, the intern will be focused on the following projects:
  • Coordinate a “Shut-it-Off” (SIO) campaign to promote energy conservation across the site.  Responsibilities include estimating energy savings using SIO calculators, site-specific energy pricing, and electricity usage.  In addition, identify non-programmable equipment and implement SIO process for this equipment through communications and signage.
  • Review site water usage and current metering.  Based on review, identify water-intensive processes that do not have sufficient metering.  Propose locations to install additional metering which would allow the site to more closely track these processes to gain insights into water-saving opportunities.
  • Review the site’s toxics use reporting and reduction plan.  Meet with key stakeholders and perform research to identify opportunities to reduce usage of these toxic chemicals through substitution, engineering controls, operation and maintenance improvements, process modernization, etc.
  • Additional tasks and smaller projects related to environmental compliance and sustainability may be assigned based on time available and intern’s interest.

Qualifications You Must Have

  • Must be pursuing Bachelor’s or Advanced degree in Environmental Engineering and Health Science or related major obtained by start date
  • Must have a minimum of 60 hours of credit by the start of the internship / co-op session.
  • Experience/Education with environmental compliance and sustainability
  • Experience with Microsoft Office tools
  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract

  • 3.0 cumulative GPA desired
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills – comfortable working with quantitative and qualitative data
  • Strong ability to work in teams and collaborate with peers and internal customers
