Job Purpose:
To manage and oversee all GST and indirect tax litigation matters of the organization, including handling show-cause notices, departmental audits, investigations, appeals, hearings, and coordination with legal counsels and consultants. The role is responsible for minimizing tax exposure, ensuring timely compliance with litigation requirements, and maintaining complete litigation records across locations.
Key Responsibilities:
GST Litigation Management
• Independently handle GST litigation matters across India.
• Draft, review, and submit replies to Show Cause Notices (SCNs), notices, summons, and departmental communications.
• Prepare and file appeals before appellate authorities, tribunals, and other judicial forums.
• Analyze litigation risks and develop defense strategies in consultation with internal stakeholders and legal advisors.
• Track all ongoing GST disputes, investigations, assessments, and appeals.
Representation and Hearings
• Attend hearings before GST authorities and appellate forums.
• Coordinate with advocates, counsels, and consultants for litigation strategy and representation.
• Prepare briefs, supporting documents, factual summaries, and legal submissions for hearings.
• Ensure timely compliance related to Litigations with directions issued by authorities.
Advisory and Technical Support
• Research GST laws, notifications, circulars, advance rulings, and judicial pronouncements.
• Provide technical guidance to Tax Compliance Team, business and finance teams on GST implications and dispute resolution.
• Identify potential tax risks and recommend corrective actions.
Coordination with Internal & External Stakeholders
• Liaise with external tax consultants, law firms, and counsels.
Manage relationships with GST authorities and government departments.
• Manage & Co-ordinate with Tax Compliance Team within Organisation
• Coordinate with internal compliance departments for collection of information and documentation required for litigation matters.
Litigation Tracking and MIS
• Maintain a centralized litigation tracker covering all states and GST registrations.
• Monitor litigation timelines, hearing schedules, appeal deadlines, and compliance requirements.
• Prepare periodic MIS reports for senior management regarding litigation status, tax exposure, and key developments.
Contingent Liability Management
• Maintain complete documentation relating to tax disputes and contingent liabilities.
• Support statutory auditors, internal auditors, and management in assessing litigation provisions and contingent liability disclosures.
• Ensure proper documentation and record retention for all litigation matters.
Audit and Investigation Support
• Handle GST departmental audits, investigations, and assessments.
• Coordinate responses to audit observations and queries.
• Support closure of audit objections and disputes.
Required Skills and Competencies
• Strong practical knowledge of GST litigation and indirect tax laws.
• Expertise in drafting legal submissions, replies, and appeals.
• Experience handling departmental audits, investigations, and assessments.
• Ability to interpret legal provisions and judicial precedents. • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management abilities.
• Proficiency in MS Excel, PowerPoint, and litigation tracking systems.
• Ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines simultaneously.
Basic Qulaification:
• Minimum 5–10 years of experience in indirect taxation with substantial exposure to GST litigation.
•Chartered Accountant (CA) with Strong knowledge of GST laws, rules, notifications, circulars, and judicial precedents
• Proven experience in handling SCNs, appeals, hearings, departmental audits, and assessments.
• Experience managing litigation matters across multiple states.
•Ability to work independently and interact with senior management, auditors, consultants, and government authorities.
