CLASSIFICATION: Administrative Specialist VI
SALARY RANGE: $55,521-$84,482
SUPERVISOR: Director of Human Resources
Position Overview
The Senior Human Resources Generalist serves as the day-to-day operational lead within the Human Resources Department and provides direct support to the Director of Human Resources in the administration and coordination of Human Resources functions.
This position provides day-to-day work direction, guidance, and support to HR Generalists and HR support staff as delegated by the Director of Human Resources. The Senior HR Generalist assists with establishing daily priorities, monitoring departmental workflow, ensuring timely completion of HR responsibilities, resolving routine operational matters, and identifying issues requiring the attention of the Director of Human Resources.
The Senior HR Generalist serves as a primary resource for employees, supervisors, and HR staff regarding Human Resources processes and practices. The position exercises independent judgment within established policies, procedures, and delegated authority while escalating significant employee relations, compliance, disciplinary, legal, compensation, or organizational matters to the Director of Human Resources.
The Senior HR Generalist supports continuity of HR operations and helps ensure the department provides timely, consistent, professional, and compliant services throughout the organization.
Key Responsibilities
Recruitment and Onboarding: Manage full cycle recruitment, ensuring the timely hiring of qualified clinical and non-clinical staff. Facilitate onboarding programs and prepare new hires to thrive in a healthcare setting.
Payroll: Assist with payroll processing by reviewing timecards, auditing payroll data, and maintaining payroll-related employee records to ensure accurate and timely employee compensation. The HR Generalist must have the knowledge and ability to process payroll and will serve as a liaison between employees, supervisors, and payroll staff to resolve discrepancies and support payroll reporting and audit requirements.
Training and Development: Identify and coordinate professional development opportunities, including compliance training specific to behavioral and mental health care regulations. Evaluate program effectiveness and ensure continuing education requirements are met.
Employee Relations: Serve as a trusted resource for staff by addressing employee concerns, conducting workplace investigations, and promoting a supportive, respectful environment to reduce burnout and turnover.

Compliance: Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws as well as healthcare-specific requirements (e.g., HIPAA, maintain accurate HR records and reports, and various governing bodies).
HRIS Management: Manage HR information systems to ensure accurate tracking of employee data, certification, and training compliance.

Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Management, or a related field from an accredited college or university and a minimum of three years of progressively responsible Human Resources experience.
OR Associate degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Management, or a related field and a minimum of five years of progressively responsible Human Resources experience.
OR High school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of seven years of progressively responsible Human Resources experience, including experience performing advanced Human Resources functions.
Experience must include demonstrated responsibility in multiple Human Resources functional areas, such as employee relations, recruitment and onboarding, payroll, benefits administration, HRIS administration, compliance, performance management, investigations, or training and development.
Previous experience providing work direction, serving in a lead HR capacity, or supporting the day to day operations of a Human Resources department is preferred.
Experience in healthcare, behavioral health, mental health, or another highly regulated environment is preferred.
PHR, SHRM CP, or other recognized Human Resources certification is preferred. Relevant certification may be considered as additional evidence of professional HR knowledge but does not replace required experience.
