Overview
The New York Stock Exchange, a subsidiary of Intercontinental Exchange, Inc. (ICE), presents a unique opportunity for a full-time hands-on Senior Manager of Engineering to lead a core engineering team responsible for maintenance and modernization of web-based test management platform for exchange testing. This role carries significant ownership — the test platform underpins quality assurance for all trading systems at NYSE.
Responsibilities
- Own the technical roadmap for consolidating test systems into a unified platform: centralized test repository, modern execution engine, and web-based UI for authoring, monitoring, and analysis.
- Drive architectural decisions, focusing on React/TypeScript frontend, Java/Python async backend, Kafka event streaming, and integration with existing C++/Java execution infrastructure.
- Define system requirements for performance, scalability, reliability, and security (SLAs, throughput, latency targets).
- Promote engineering standards, design patterns, and best practices across the team
- Own planning and prioritization of the platform roadmap in quarterly increments; track progress against commitments.
- Proficiency in using of AI coding assistants (Claude Code, Cursor, Copilot, or equivalent) as a daily part of the development workflow
Knowledge and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field.
- 12+ years of progressive hands-on software engineering experience across multiple technology stacks.
- 3+ years in an engineering leadership or management role with demonstrated experience leading and growing a team of engineers.
- 4+ years building full-stack web applications (React/TypeScript frontend, Python/Java/Node.js backend).
- 3+ years with cloud-native systems (microservices, Kubernetes, cloud platforms, distributed systems).
- Solid hands-on background with TCP/IP, Multicast network protocols, multithreading, and real-time systems.
- Strong expertise in building data-intensive platforms (databases, real-time streaming, event-driven architectures, message queues).
Preferred Knowledge and Experience
- Prior experience working on development of Trading Systems Test tools is a plus
- Hands-on experience with C/C++
- Knowledge of FIX protocol or other message-based communication protocols
- Experience building UIs that consume real-time data streams (WebSocket / SSE / gRPC-Web)
- Familiarity with Kafka concepts
