Summary
JOB SUMMARY:Reporting to the Director, Occupational Health and Safety, the Manager, Wellness leads a team health and safety professionals responsible for development, implementation and evaluation of a comprehensive range of programs and strategies to create environments and foster positive cultures that enhance mental health, well-being, and support physical and psychological safety in the PHC workplace. Works with the Director build PHC's health and wellness vision. Leads and/or develops and implements strategies to support employee health and wellness self-management. Manages the development, implementation and training related to CSA Psychologically Safe Workplace standards, and policy development, and involvement in the Respect at Work policy implementation; and establishes measures to monitor the effectiveness of programs, and to assess, mitigate and control related risks to the organization. Oversees the creation of training materials and communications. Builds strong relationships with partners and engages stakeholders across the organization to implement programs. Please note that this is a temporary contract position with a defined end date of January 5th, 2028, and the job posting will close on October 12th, 2026 at 8:00 am.QUALIFICATIONS:EducationA level of education, training and experience equivalent to a Master's Degree in Public Health, Health Promotion, Psychology, Organizational Behaviour or a related field. Seven (7) years recent, related experience as a health and safety professional including leadership experience managing staff/project teams, preferably in a unionized setting. Knowledge of health promotion and illness/disease prevention, mental health programs, occupational health and safety prevention practices and experience in program development, implementation, marketing and evaluation.Skills and AbilitiesComprehensive knowledge of the theories, principles, practices and techniques pertaining to psychological health and wellness management.Knowledge of the collective agreements, relevant employment standards, health and safety legislation and other regulatory requirements.Demonstrated understanding of the health coaching process to support healthy behavior change in clients.Ability to supervise, lead and direct others including team members, leaders and staff.Ability to communicate effectively and present clear and decisive information, using the principles of adult education.Ability to effectively organize, prioritize and delegate work in order to meet deadlines.Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships, at all levels of the organization, with internal and external stakeholders.Strong mediation and facilitation skills, and the ability to problem solve complex issues.Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively with a team.Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.Proven skills in project planning and management.Demonstrated ability to compile, analyze and maintain statistical data.Knowledge of research methodology and commitment to program evaluation.Ability to operate related equipment, including various computer software applications.Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.Leads the development of PHC wide framework for psychological health and wellness management in collaboration with PHC Directors, Managers and other stakeholders.Leads the design, development and implementation of plans, initiatives and programs to promote a psychologically healthy and safe workplace. Develops, implements and evaluates the designed programs/policies according to evidence-based resources including: comprehensive corporate and individual needs assessments; analysis of statistics; current research literature pertaining to occupational health; mental health and communicable disease prevention practices and protocols; legislative requirements; and chronic disease management strategies.Leads these initiatives throughout the organization and builds acceptance and commitment to related policies, procedures, practices and standards. This includes promoting a culture that encourages a healthy and safe work environment, individual responsibility and personal commitment to health and safety. Prepares and presents related presentations and briefings including making recommendations, presenting reports and engaging in communications with senior management and other key stakeholders.Manages the marketing and promotion of mental and psychological health, and wellness programs at PHC to ensure ongoing employee awareness.Provides leadership and day-to-day coordination of work for assigned team members, ensuring clarity of roles and responsibilities, adherence to standards of quality, and effective and timely service delivery. Assesses workload and staffing requirements, coordinates, and adjusts work assignments accordingly for team members. Recruits, mentors, coaches and develops team members and promotes cooperative working relationships within human resources and across other corporate departments. Provides regular and timely updates to the Director, Occupational Health and Safety on emerging issues and trends, and staff activities. Sets performance expectations and conducts regular staff performance reviews, identifying areas requiring improvement and taking follow up action as required to address performance problems up to and including termination, if required.Participates in budget planning for the department and monitors and tracks expenditures for assigned area as applicable. Provides expert advice and support on psychological health and wellness practices management and leadership on approved psychological health and safety polices and framework, aligned with the Psychological Health & Wellness in the CSA Psychologically Safe Workplace standards and other industry standards. Identifies and evaluates programs, policies and workplace practices that may affect psychological health and wellness. Provides assistance and guidance to other staff in the management of critical incidents.Manages relationships with key internal and external stakeholders in order to ensure effective establishment of new policies and practices, negotiate contracts, expand programs, obtain funding, and support for new initiatives.Recommends, develops and delivers employee health and psychological safety training including legal and regulatory requirements.Participates as a member in various committees, working groups and processes, providing expertise and guidance.Maintains an awareness of trends and issues in health care, and health promotion through education, literature reviews and other means. Identifies opportunities and strategies to enhance the delivery of educational information.Performs other related duties as required.
