Summary
Performs professional environmental health work in conducting surveys, performing inspections/investigations, educating the public and assisting in the planning, promotion and execution of programs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The following may not be all inclusive and other duties may be assigned.
- Inspects public swimming pools, spa pools, organizational camps, traveler's accommodations and RV Parks for compliance with state laws and regulations; prepares compliance schedules and assists in arranging for necessary
- Inspects food service establishments to assure compliance with laws and rules; instructs food handlers on proper food handling procedures and equipment
- Inspects care facilities and schools for food service, institutions, water supplies, sewage disposal, solid waste practices and general cleanliness and safety; arranges for necessary
- Investigates complaints and disease outbreaks concerning food, water, animals, vector, sewage disposal and communicable diseases as required by law and with the assistance of other County staff as needed; takes necessary corrective/preventive
- Inspects water systems for compliance with state laws and regulations; prepares compliance schedules and assists in arranging for necessary Reviews well for location and construction.

- Reviews plans for proposed food service establishments, tourist and travelers' accommodations and care facilities to ensure compliance to rules; monitors and evaluates
- Reviews meteorological data to determine air quality advisory; patrols and advises of air quality
- Keeps records of inspections and other activities; prepares reports and recommendations and downloads them from the computer into the state provided
- Maintains records of all activities for registration
- Attends required educational training for maintaining registration and program
- Effectively communicates in person, by phone and in writing with clients, the general public, and various other
- Responds to citizen
- Participates on the public health emergency preparedness team as needed
Education and/or Experience
EHS I- Trainee: Bachelor's Degree with 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent semester hours, in science courses relating to environmental sanitation; transcript required to be submitted with application. Registration from Oregon Health Licensing agency as an Environmental Health Specialist Trainee. This position must become a Registered Environmental Health Specialist within 24 months.
REHS II- Registration from Oregon Health Licensing agency as a Registered Environmental Health Specialist.
