Job Summary
Owns the organization's contract manufacturing, packaging procurement, strategic sourcing, and indirect procurement functions. Leads the development and execution of sourcing strategies, supplier partnerships, and commercial agreements that ensure supply continuity, operational excellence, and cost competitiveness. Partners cross-functionally with Operations, Manufacturing, Quality, Marketing, R&D, Finance, and Supply Chain to support business growth, successful commercialization, and continuous improvement while leading a team of buyers responsible for external procurement activities.
Essential Functions
Leadership & Strategy
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of buyers responsible for contract manufacturing, packaging procurement, and indirect spend.
- Develop and implement sourcing strategies that support cost, quality, service, and supply continuity.
- Partner with leadership and cross-functional teams to align sourcing strategies with business priorities and product commercialization.
- Identify and implement opportunities to reduce costs, improve processes, strengthen supplier performance, and minimize supply risk.
Contract Manufacturing Management
- Develop and manage a network of contract manufacturing partners that supports business and operational needs.
- Negotiate commercial agreements and manage contract manufacturing relationships through performance reviews and regular business meetings.
- Oversee the movement of packaging components and finished goods between suppliers, distribution centers, and contract manufacturing partners to support production schedules.
- Evaluate, qualify, and onboard new contract manufacturing partners based on quality, capacity, cost, service, and business needs.
Packaging Procurement & Supplier Management
- Develop and manage the company's packaging procurement strategy, including supplier sourcing, qualification, and supplier development.
- Partner with Marketing, R&D, Manufacturing, Quality, and Operations to support packaging changes, new product launches, and ongoing packaging needs.
- Monitor packaging markets, supplier capacity, and material availability to identify supply risks and sourcing opportunities.
- Identify opportunities to consolidate suppliers and improve purchasing efficiencies.
- Negotiate and manage supplier agreements that establish pricing, service expectations, and performance requirements.
Procurement & Financial Management
- Manage indirect procurement categories, including MRO, facilities, operational supplies, and service contracts.
- Develop annual procurement plans and sourcing priorities that support business and operational objectives.
- Negotiate and execute supplier contracts, purchase agreements, and commercial terms within delegated authority.
- Monitor procurement spend, supplier performance, and cost trends, and lead sourcing and supplier improvement initiatives that support financial and operational goals.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Operations, Manufacturing, Finance, Marketing, Quality, R&D, and Supply Chain Planning to support externally manufactured products and packaging initiatives.
- Establish supplier performance expectations, key performance indicators, and regular business reviews.
- Work with internal teams and suppliers to resolve quality, delivery, and service issues.
- Travel domestically and internationally as required to support supplier relationships, contract manufacturing partners, audits, and business needs.
Additional Responsibilities
- Support company, department, and/or safety policies, procedures, programs, and initiatives.
- Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
- Maintain a clean and orderly work area.
Job Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 6+ years of experience in contract manufacturing, packaging procurement, or supply chain management strongly preferred.
- Experience working with ERP, MRP, and other supply chain systems, including planning parameters and inventory management.
- Strong negotiation, supplier management, and contract administration skills.
- Understanding end-to-end supply chain processes, including sourcing, procurement, manufacturing, packaging, logistics, and supplier management.
- Experience supporting new product development and commercialization activities in partnership with internal stakeholders and contract manufacturing partners.
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills with experience using tools such as Microsoft Excel, SQL, and other reporting or data analysis platforms.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence internal and external stakeholders.
