First round interviews will tentatively be held the week of October 5th, 2026. These duties include but are not limited to the following:
- Supports the Operations and Investigations Divisions, informing them of crime trend data to assist with planning the deployment of resources for preventing and suppressing criminal activities. Analyzes and focuses on crime trends involving criminal offenses and offenders, and provides strategic analysis focusing on ongoing problems with certain crimes, locations, and individuals to increase apprehension and decrease crime.
- Compiles complex data and tracks and reports criminal analysis utilizing multiple means.
- Extract crime analysis data from a variety of sources available to the department, including the records management system, government databases, commercial databases, daily jail booking, roster reports and open-source searches.
- Develop and produce crime maps using geographic information systems (GIS) applications and conduct spatial analysis of crime data.
- Collects, assembles, analyzes, and evaluates facts to draw logical conclusions and make proper recommendations.
- Prepares clear, concise, and comprehensive written reports that require displaying and presenting statistical, graphical, and other reporting methods to audiences of varying technical sophistication. Develops crime summaries, profiles, statistical reports, spreadsheets, charts and other related materials to track and present findings.
- Provides the analysis of collision data for traffic enforcement emphasis, and the analytical support for community policing and crime prevention programs.
- Provides excellent internal and external customer service (i.e. with other jurisdictions and or the community), responding to changing customer needs and helping customers implement complete solutions.
- Initiate target profile analysis, generate investigative leads and create informational reports and visualizations.
- Maintain confidentiality of sensitive law enforcement information and other confidential department information.
- Provide accurate, timely, and relevant analysis of crime patterns and trends to patrol and detectives that aid in the efficient deployment of department resources.
- Attend department meetings, shift briefings and local/regional crime analyst and detective meetings to provide and receive information on current crime series and trends.
- Share information with department personnel for increased awareness, response planning or investigative support.
- Maintains current knowledge of crime analysis practices, tools, and technologies through ongoing training and professional development.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice, Public or Business Administration, Math, Finance, Information Technology or related field AND one (1) year experience working as a crime analyst or increasing responsible work experience.
*May have a combination of experience, education, and training that would substitute for the above requirements.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Completion of training and certification from a crime analyst program.
- Geographic Information Systems, 28CFR Rules and Regulations, and Gang/WaGang Gatekeeper training.
- Familiarity with social media accounts in a business/governmental setting.
- Possession of certificates in introduction to crime analysis, advanced concepts in crime analysis, and/or criminal intelligence.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS OR LICENSE(S)
- Must pass a thorough background investigation which includes polygraph, and psychological examinations.
- Must maintain a level of physical and mental fitness necessary to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without an accommodation.
- Must be attentive to job safety considerations and follows all required safety policies, procedures and techniques.
- Must have the ability to get certifications for access to State and Federal records systems.
- Must possess a valid Washington State driver’s license at time of hire OR must obtain within thirty (30) days from date of hire, and must have a driving record acceptable to the City and the City’s insurance carrier.
- Verification of identity and United States work authorization must be complete as required by the Immigration Reform and Control Act.
- Police Records Management Systems, GIS mapping processes, and crime prevention strategies/analysis to present detailed crime trend perspectives.
- Crime trends and analysis in a business/governmental setting.
- Modern quantitative research methods, research design, statistical analysis, frequency distribution, association matrices and link analysis.
- FBI uniform crime reporting requirements.
- Police department rank, structure, and organization, municipal ordinances, and pertinent local, state, and federal laws related to law enforcement/police department operations.
- Local government, public process, community programs, and law enforcement/police department procedures.
- Principles and practices of Geographic information systems (GIS).
- General office procedures and practices, computers and their applications, including spreadsheets, databases, and word processing systems.
- Research methods and report writing techniques; preparation and presentation of crime statistic, and narrative reports.
- Telephone and e-mail techniques and etiquette.
- Social media platforms, accounts and how information is shared amongst users.
- Conducting research, analyzing crime trends, and performing statistical analysis specific to these trends.
- Analyzing and organizing technical crime analysis information using critical thinking; developing appropriate metrics and providing analyses of such metrics for operational efficiencies; and preparing a variety of reports, logs, records, and files related to assigned activities.
- Coordinating project work and assigned tasks, troubleshooting and solving complex technical problems, and using good judgment in decision making.
- Possesses strong mathematical and analytical skills.
- Planning and organizing work and meeting scheduled timelines.
- Maintaining complex record keeping for correspondence, reports, and documentation.

- Identify crime patterns and provide actionable information for prevention and apprehension.

- Evaluate and recommend improvements in operations, systems, procedures, policies, and methods.
- Manage several complex projects simultaneously and with extreme attention to detail, produce an accurate, thorough, and complete work product and to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Perform responsible and complex technical work using independent judgment, initiative, and discretion with specific emphasis on law enforcement/governmental operations.
