Your Role: Own the Challenge

In this role, you will contribute to the development of innovative products and solutions for the ELSP (Smart Power) Business, supporting the NEMA Enclosed Safety Switch Team within the NAM Construction & Infrastructure (NAM C&I) Agile Unit.

 

As an R&D Senior Engineer, you will leverage your strong technical expertise and leadership skills to drive product development activities, ensuring compliance with quality, safety, and regulatory requirements while supporting new product introduction (NPI) initiatives. You will play a key role in developing innovative solutions that create value for customers and strengthen ABB's market position.

 

This position requires a high degree of flexibility, analytical thinking, and collaboration. You will identify, propose, and implement innovative technologies, software, and engineering solutions while contributing your own ideas and working independently as part of a global R&D team.

The work model for the role is: On site

This role is contributing to the ELSP (Smart Power) Business at our site in Monterrey, Mexico.

Key Responsibilities:

• Maintain recognized expertise in a specialized technical area by integrating the latest developments in technologies, tools, and methodologies into your work.
• Drive innovation by exploring new ideas, developing hypotheses, and defining validation methods to solve complex engineering challenges.
• Document engineering results, including findings, designs, specifications, and technical solutions, enabling knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.
• Contribute to intellectual property (IP) generation within your area of expertise and support the development of project IP strategies.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Power Engineering, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in the design, development, and manufacturing implementation of electrical or electromechanical products.
• Knowledge of safety switches, transfer switches, automatic transfer switches (ATS), panelboards, circuit breakers, or similar products.
• Experience with product testing, Design of Experiments (DoE), data analysis, and troubleshooting design issues.
• Familiarity with international certification and compliance standards such as UL, IEC, and IEEE.
• Experience with product design documentation and engineering tools such as Creo and Windchill.
• Proven ability to develop innovative, cost-effective, and compliant engineering solutions.
• Lean/Six Sigma Green Belt certification is preferred.
• Authorization to work in Mexico is required.
• Fluent in English and Spanish.
• Strong communication, problem-solving, and project execution skills, with the ability to work independently and collaborate effectively within cross-functional teams.
