The City of Newberry is looking for a hardworking, dependable, and team-oriented Parks Maintenance Technician to help maintain the parks, athletic fields, and recreational facilities that serve our growing community. Qualifications
Required
- Valid Florida Driver’s License or equivalent from another state
- High school diploma or GED.
- Ability to safely operate equipment and perform physically demanding outdoor work.
- Must meet and maintain Florida Department of Corrections (FDOC) requirements to serve as a Non-DOC Inmate Supervisor
Preferred
- Experience in parks, grounds, landscape, athletic field, or facilities maintenance.
- Experience operating commercial mowing equipment, tractors, trailers, or other grounds maintenance equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Maintain parks, athletic fields, playgrounds, and recreational facilities to ensure they are safe, clean, attractive, and ready for daily use, tournaments, and community events.
- Operate and maintain equipment, tools, and vehicles used in park and athletic field maintenance.
- Support daily park operations by responding to maintenance needs, preparing facilities for recreational programs and special events, and assisting with event setup and breakdown.
- Promote a safe work environment by following established safety practices, identifying hazards, maintaining equipment, and ensuring compliance with operational and safety standards.
- Supervise inmate work crews in accordance with Florida Department of Corrections (FDOC) requirements, ensuring compliance with safety procedures, work standards, and reporting requirements.
- Provide excellent customer service while working collaboratively with coworkers to support the Parks & Recreation Department and uphold the City's TRAILS values.
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
This position requires regular outdoor work and the ability to safely perform physically demanding tasks while maintaining City parks, athletic fields, and recreational facilities.
- Regularly stands, walks, bends, kneels, climbs, and performs manual labor.
- Regularly lifts up to 50 pounds and up to 100 pounds with assistance.
- Operates maintenance equipment, vehicles, and power tools in varying outdoor conditions.
- Works outdoors in heat, humidity, rain, and other weather conditions, with exposure to noise, dust, heavy equipment, and environmental hazards.
