The Senior Commercial Loan Officer serves as a strategic advisor and business development leader, driving the credit union’s growth and visibility within the commercial sector. This role is accountable for sourcing, structuring, and managing complex commercial loan opportunities, while cultivating high-value relationships and expanding deposit portfolios. In collaboration with credit and internal teams, the officer ensures efficient, compliant lending execution and delivers exceptional member experience. Additionally, the position plays a key role in product innovation, market intelligence, and mentoring junior bankers/lenders to elevate departmental performance and capabilities.
Essential Functions
- Leads business development initiatives to grow commercial loan and deposit portfolios.
- Presents underwriting recommendations and collaborates with credit partners to facilitate timely approvals.
- Partners with credit and underwriting teams to develop recommendations and formally present larger credits to the lending committee.
- Proactively manages portfolio performance, identifies early warning indicators, and executes risk mitigation strategies to protect credit quality.
- Reviews loan documentation and closing packages to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance.
- Expands and deepens business relationships by growing deposits, fee income, and adoption of treasury/cash management solutions.
- Conducts in-depth financial analysis and risk assessment for loan applicants.
- Maintains and expands relationships with high-value business members and centers of influence.
- Collaborates with internal departments and branch teams on strategic initiatives.
- Provides guidance and mentorship to junior banking/lending staff and peers.
- Participates in community engagement and networking activities.
- Serves as a subject matter expert on commercial lending and business banking practices.
- Participates in cross-functional projects to improve lending operations and member experience.
- Maintains disciplined calling activity through site visits, proactive outreach, and documentation.
- Promotes the credit union’s full suite of commercial and retail solutions; delivers qualified referrals to partner teams.
- Represents the credit union in the business community, strengthening brand visibility and generating pipeline opportunities.
- Provides market intelligence to leadership regarding emerging trends, competitive conditions, and strategic product needs.
- Maintains strong knowledge of commercial lending policies, legal requirements, and compliance obligations including BSA/AML regulatory frameworks.
What You Bring 🎯
- High School Diploma or GED Required
- Bachelor’s degree in finance or related field preferred.
- 10-15 years similar or related experience of commercial lending, banking experience, including leadership experience required.
- Expertise in commercial lending and credit analysis
- Strong leadership and mentoring capabilities
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities
- Expertise in banking industry
- Knowledge and experience with office suite software (e.g., Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Strong attention-to-detail, organization, and multitasking skills.

- Target hiring range: $111,801.86 - $139,752.33 (Depending on experience and prior to any incentives this position is eligible for)
