Career and Workforce Pathways Specialist (Electrical and Clean Energy)

Position Overview:

Wentworth Institute of Technology seeks a student-centered Career Specialist to support learners enrolled in the Massachusetts Board-approved Journeyman Electrical (JE) Program and the forthcoming Climate Critical Electrical Pre-Apprenticeship Program (CCEPA). This role will provide individualized career advising, workforce readiness support, employer engagement, and placement coordination to help students successfully transition into apprenticeship programs, employment, and continued education pathways aligned with apprenticeship to journeyman-level electrician roles and Massachusetts climate and clean energy related workforce needs.

The Career and Workforce Pathways Specialist will play a key role in advancing equitable access to high-quality careers in the electrical and high-performance building sectors by supporting individuals who may face barriers to workforce entry, including early-career learners, career changers, and students from low-income or underserved communities. The position aligns directly with Wentworth’s workforce development mission and MassCEC Equity Workforce Grant objectives.

Key Responsibilities:

Student Advising & Career Coaching

• Provide individual career coaching and goal-setting support for students enrolled in JE, CCEPA programs, and other workforce development initiatives, as needed.

• Provide critical feedback on application materials, resume development, interviewing skills, networking strategies, and job search preparation.

• Design and deliver group workshops and training sessions on career readiness topics including but not limited to resume writing, interviewing, professional communication, networking, job search strategies, workplace expectations, and navigating apprenticeship and employment pathways.

• Support students in understanding apprenticeship pathways, licensing requirements, and career opportunities within the electrical and clean energy sectors.

• Maintain regular student check-ins to support persistence, retention, and successful program completion.

Employer & Industry Engagement

• Develop and maintain relationships with employers, apprenticeship programs, unions, workforce boards, and industry partners.

• Coordinate with faculty to schedule employer site visits, guest speakers, informational interviews, and networking opportunities.

• Assist with apprenticeship and job placement coordination.

• Identify emerging workforce trends and hiring opportunities within construction trades and climate-critical industries including electrification, EV infrastructure, renewable energy, and high-performance buildings.

• Collaborate with Wentworth staff who provide external relations, such as UA, C&C, Government Relations.

Administrative & Reporting Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate student records using Navigate360.

• Assist with grant reporting, participant engagement and outcomes tracking, and employer engagement documentation, as needed.

• Participate in related meetings, administrative systems training, and other workforce development initiatives as needed.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree.

• Minimum 1 years of experience in career coaching, workforce development, vocational advising or student support services.

• Experience working with non-traditional learners or individuals facing barriers to employment.

• Strong communication, relationship-building, and organizational skills.

• Ability to collaborate effectively with employers, faculty, and community partners.

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with apprenticeship pathways, skilled trades, construction, electrical, or clean energy industries.

• Experience designing and facilitating workshops, trainings, or group learning sessions for adult learners, workforce participants, or students.

• Knowledge of Massachusetts workforce systems, labor market trends, and apprenticeship programs.

• Experience using student tracking or CRM systems.

About the Programs:

Wentworth’s Journeyman Electrical Program is a Massachusetts Board-approved electrical education pathway designed to prepare students for licensure and long-term careers in the electrical industry. The Climate Critical Electrical Pre-Apprenticeship Program is a new two-stage workforce initiative focused on preparing learners for careers in electrification, high-performance buildings, renewable energy systems, and EV infrastructure. Collaborate with Wentworth staff who provide external relations, such as UA, C&C, Government Relations.

Position Details:

This position is a part time, salaried position, with a 15-hour work schedule.

Please note that this position is also contingent on the availability of external funding and is subject to annual performance reviews and funding renewals. The incumbent may be separated from employment with notice if funding is reduced or discontinued. This position is currently funded with an anticipated end date of December 2028.

At this time, the university is unable to sponsor applicants for H-1B visas.

The expected yearly salary range for this position is $35,100 which reflects what we reasonably expect to pay for this part-time role.
