Description
We are supporting our client, an independent engineering, design and project management consultancy operating within the energy sector, in the appointment of a Financial Controller on a part-time basis (3–4 days per week).
This is a key role within the business, responsible for overseeing financial operations and providing strong financial leadership across a portfolio of companies and projects. Working closely with senior management and project controls, the successful candidate will ensure accurate financial reporting, maintain robust financial controls, support project performance, and contribute to the continued growth and success of the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead the preparation of monthly management accounts, forecasts and financial reports.
• Manage month-end and year-end reporting processes.
• Monitor business and project performance against budgets and forecasts, providing meaningful analysis and recommendations.
• Work closely with project controls to ensure accurate project financial reporting, forecasting and cost management.
• Maintain and enhance financial controls, policies and governance procedures.
• Manage cash flow reporting and working capital requirements.
• Oversee intercompany accounting, reconciliations and balance sheet integrity.
• Ensure compliance with all statutory, audit and tax requirements.
• Support the ongoing development and optimisation of Sage, or similar finance systems.
• Provide financial guidance and commercial support to operational and project teams.
Skills, Knowledge & Experience
• Proven experience in a Financial Controller, Finance Manager or similar senior finance role.
• Previous experience within engineering, energy, technical services or other project-driven environments.
• Strong understanding of management accounting, financial reporting and financial controls.
• Experience managing intercompany transactions, reconciliations and group reporting requirements.
• Proficiency with Sage or comparable ERP/accounting systems.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Commercially minded, with the ability to translate financial data into clear and actionable business insight.
