Description
About this Opportunity:
As a Trader, you exercise independent judgment and discretion in executing day-to-day trading functions for advisors, clients, and money managers — including equity, mutual fund, and ETF trade placement, rebalances, trade reconciliation, incoming cash allocations, and corrective trading. This role requires evaluating instructions, assessing market conditions, and making real-time decisions to optimize trade outcomes while mitigating risk, within a workflow-managed, high-quality, regulated environment. The role involves close coordination with advisor service teams to deliver industry-leading service, balanced with individual-driven risk management controls. As we continue to evolve and live our Orion values, we are looking for someone to grow with us.
It is anticipated that an incumbent in this role will work as a Hybrid employee, with three (3) or more days each week required on-site at one of the listed office locations.
Candidates should be located within a commutable distance to an office. Internal candidates currently aligned to an Orion office location may be given preference; however, internal candidates with varying work arrangements may be considered based on experience and business needs. Work location is subject to change based on business needs.
In this role, you’ll get to:
Apply knowledge of asset classes to independently determine the most effective methods for buying or selling, considering market volatility, liquidity, and client objectives
Set-up and maintain accounts in Orion's portfolio accounting system, including model allocations, fees, and notes, and execute model or exhibit changes for accounts under ongoing management
Recognize when specific accounts require rebalancing based on drift, protocol, or discretionary allocation changes, and initiate system-generated trade recommendations for review, confirmation, or adjustment
Review system-generated lists of accounts flagged for rebalancing, confirming or adjusting recommended trades for accuracy prior to execution
Identify anomalies and inconsistencies in trade instructions, independently resolve them, communicate with advisors as needed, and document outcomes to prevent errors
Identify trade errors, determine root cause, and execute corrective trades to remediate account impact, documenting findings per policy
Support the implementation and ongoing monitoring of trading automation and exception reporting, helping ensure accuracy and timely identification of issues
Process cash management trade orders and handle block trades or money manager trade signals across large numbers of accounts, exercising real-time judgment to ensure best execution
Interpret and act on urgent verbal trade instructions from advisors under pressure, documenting outcomes thoroughly
Manage trade flow processing — mutual fund, ETF, and equity placement, reconciliation, listbill processing, and incoming cash allocations — within trading cutoffs and service level metrics while maintaining compliance
Maintain working awareness of custodian-specific trading requirements across Orion's custodial relationships
Maintain documentation for work processes and procedures, and contribute improvement suggestions
Partner effectively across internal business teams, vendors, money managers, and external clients
We’re looking for talent who:
Has a GED or high school diploma as required
Has a Bachelor’s degree as preferred
In lieu of Bachelor’s degree, equivalent experience may be accepted
Has a minimum of two (2) years of relevant trading or financial services experience as required
This position requires a Series 65 license or both Series 7 and 66 licenses. If the required license(s) are not held at the time of hire, they must be obtained within 90 days of the start date. Failure to obtain the required license(s) within the applicable timeframe may result in reassignment to another role, if available, or termination of employment.
Has strong analytical acumen and sound independent judgment in assessing risk, market conditions, and trade strategy
Is comfortable working within trading/portfolio management systems and interpreting system-generated trade recommendations and exception alerts
Has effective written, verbal, and listening communication skills
Has effective problem-solving and organizational skills
Owns and manages relationships with stakeholders directly, working effectively with people at all levels of an organization
