What you'll do...
Role summary:Join Walmart as a Staff Software Engineer to lead the development and delivery of scalable platform capabilities, including infrastructure, tooling, and AI/ML frameworks. This role involves driving the full software development lifecycle, applying cloud-native architecture principles, and ensuring technical excellence through design reviews and mentorship. Collaborating across teams, you will translate complex user needs into actionable solutions while promoting continuous improvement and innovation. Your expertise will support engineering productivity, system resilience, and long-term sustainability aligned with business objectives and evolving technology landscapes.
About the team:
Our team operates across the US and India, developing systems that manage software dependencies across thousands of repositories. We enforce software development lifecycle and security policies in production deployment, automate CI/CD failure diagnosis and remediation using AI and machine learning, and enhance Wibey experiences across CI/CD. Combining platform engineering, distributed systems, developer experience, AI-driven architecture, security, and compliance, the team emphasizes automation, self-service, reliability, and reducing engineering effort at scale. This collaborative environment drives innovation and operational excellence to support Walmart’s technology goals.
What you'll do:
- Design, build, and maintain scalable backend services, microservices, and cloud-native applications.
- Contribute to platform engineering initiatives, internal developer tools, CI/CD improvements, and developer productivity.
- Translate business and technical requirements into reliable, maintainable software solutions.
- Build and support event-driven systems using Kafka or similar messaging technologies.
- Design and optimize data storage using relational and NoSQL databases.
- Improve system reliability, performance, observability, and operational readiness.
- Troubleshoot production issues, resolve defects, and support smooth releases.
- Participate in architecture discussions, design reviews, code reviews, and technical planning.
- Create documentation, operational playbooks, reusable patterns, and engineering best practices.
- Collaborate with product, engineering, and cross-functional teams.
- Mentor engineers and help foster a culture of technical excellence.
What you'll bring:
- Strong proficiency in Java, object-oriented design, data structures, algorithms, concurrency, and performance optimization.
- Experience with Spring Boot, RESTful services, microservices, and cloud-native development.
- Experience with Kafka .
- Strong knowledge of relational and/or NoSQL databases.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, build tools, automated testing, and deployment practices.
- Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, orchestration technologies.
- Experience with observability tools for logging, distributed tracing.
- Working knowledge of React, HTML, CSS, and modern JavaScript.
- Hands on AI engineering experience in using LLMs, prompt engineering, embeddings, vector databases, semantic search, or RAG-based architectures.
- Exposure to Model Context Protocol (MCP), Claude Code, Claude Agent SDK, tool use, agentic workflows, context management, and human-in-the-loop AI automation.

The annual salary range for this position is $110,000.00 - $220,000.00 Additional compensation includes annual or quarterly performance bonuses. Additional compensation for certain positions may also include :
