Required Qualifications:

  • A GPA of 3.5 or higher in all course(s) and/or academic subject areas for which tutoring services will be offered and a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

  • Passion for helping others.
  • Satisfactory completion of Canvas training modules before first tutoring session, and the successful completion of the National Tutoring Association’s Basic Tutoring Certificate after completing 30 hours of tutoring in Learning Support.
  • Be available to work 10 hours per week.
  • Students must submit a Peer Tutor Application, a writing sample, one academic reference, and an unofficial transcript.

Preferred Requirements:

Federal Work-Study and VA Work-Study eligible students preferred.

  • All Federal Work-Study and VA Work-Study applicants must meet the eligibility requirements for Federal Work-Study or VA Work-Study and complete the appropriate online application.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Attend all meetings and training sessions as scheduled and arrive promptly for all tutoring sessions and study group sessions.

2. Adhere to all tutoring guidelines and best practices for ethical tutoring and academic integrity.

3. Maintain clear records of each session using LibCal and LibReference, including but not limited to weekly schedule, documenting each tutoring session, and providing follow-up information to the Director of Learning Support.

5. Assist students as they develop study skills, problem-solving skills, and self-editing skills.

6. Preparing for tutoring sessions by reviewing course related information.

7. Consult with a tutee’s instructors and/or advisor for advice, guidance, and direction in peer tutoring support for students.

8. Conduct in-person or online tutoring sessions as scheduled.

9. Conduct at least one in-person study group lasting one hour each week to be scheduled during the time the Learning Commons is open.

10. Inform and/or consult with the Director of Learning Support if problems are encountered, or the need arises for assistance relating to a specific tutoring situation.

11. Work cooperatively with Learning Support peer tutor staff to deliver a cohesive tutoring program and to respond in a professional manner to diverse student needs.

12. Submit unofficial transcripts and self-evaluation to the Director of Learning Support at the end of each semester as part of your semester evaluation.
