Support areas include, but are not limited to, math, science, technology, engineering, game design/game arts, writing, liberal arts, business, and study skills.

Peer Educators provide on-campus academic support to fellow students by facilitating learning and helping students become more confident, independent learners. • Motivate students and help them develop confidence through positive feedback on areas of improvement.
  • Fulfill student support roles as assigned, which may include drop-in support, one-to-one appointments, class embedded tutoring, and other tutoring initiatives set by tutoring coordinators.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development sessions to strengthen leadership, communication, and career readiness.
  • Arrive on time and prepared for all scheduled sessions.
  • Check office communications daily for assignments, announcements, and correspondence.
  • Submit payroll hours and tracking forms promptly after each shift.

Interpersonal Expectations:

  • Employ critical thinking to assess tutee needs and adapt tutoring strategies to meet various learning styles and backgrounds.
  • Demonstrate professionalism by being punctual, prepared, and maintaining confidentiality at all times.
  • Collaborate with fellow tutors and staff to foster a positive, inclusive, and respectful learning environment.
  • Communicate academic concepts clearly, promoting active learning and engagement.
  • Model and teach study habits, time management, and academic success strategies covered in tutor training.
  • Support equity and inclusion by creating a welcoming space for all students regardless of background, identity, or academic level.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current enrollment as a part/full-time SNHU student.
  • Cumulative SNHU GPA of 3.0 or higher.
  • Successful completion of discipline specific courses - additional requirements may vary by discipline.
  • Provide 3 letters of recommendation with at least one from a faculty member relevant to the subject area they are applying to.
  • Strong knowledge of subject matter.
  • Excellent level of responsibility, reliability, and punctuality.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and ease in relating to students from diverse backgrounds.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Develop skills to assist tutees in specific content areas using multiple in-person modalities and develop specific differentiated tutoring strategies to meet various needs of learners based on learner preferences, strengths/weaknesses, background, or prior knowledge.
  • Explain, demonstrate, and incorporate study habits, motivation, and academic success strategies consistent with those emphasized during tutor training.
  • Effectively communicate transferable skills and professional experience to support future employment and personal growth.
  • Practice active listening and verbal/written communication to assist and motivate tutees.
  • Use inclusive practices and cultural competence to support learners of diverse backgrounds and identities.
  • Take initiative in tutoring sessions and contribute to the growth of the tutoring community.
  • Uphold ethical standards and workplace responsibilities in alignment with SNHU values.
  • Collaborate with tutoring staff and academic services to support shared goals and student success.
  • Utilize digital tools to strengthen learning and provide flexible support modalities.

Work Hours:

Hours vary. Office Hours: Mondays-Thursdays: 9:00am-6:00pm, Fridays: 9:00am-4:30pm, Saturdays-Sundays: closed. Typically, peer educators work 5-10 hours per week.

Please provide your class schedule along with a resume or a purpose statement detailing qualifications and interest in the role.
