This is a term position; length of the term will be discussed during the interview process. Continuation past the term length discussed will be based on university need, performance, and/or availability of funding.

 

POSITION SPECIFICS

Penn State Lehigh Valley invites applications for a teaching-line faculty member at the rank of Lecturer or Assistant Teaching Professor of Biology. This is a non-tenure-line, limited-term, 36-week appointment funded for one year from the date of hire with possibility of re-appointment.

Responsibilities for the position will include but not be limited to:

  • Teach twelve contact hours per semester, which includes teaching anatomy and physiology (lectures and laboratories) as part of the dual-enrollment Emerging Health Professionals (EHP) program
  • Additional teaching duties could include general biology lectures and labs, core biology courses, microbiology lectures and labs, and/or upper-level courses in the candidate’s field of study.
  • Commitment to high-quality instruction in a student-centered environment is expected
  • Teaching assignments may require teaching day, evening, night and/or weekend classes as needed
  • Academic advising of students
  • Participate in campus, college, university, and professional service activities

Applicants should have earned a master’s degree in biology or other closely related field at a minimum to be considered for the rank of Lecturer or a Ph.D. in biology (preferred) or closely related field to be considered for the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor. Prior college-level teaching experience required. Experience working with undergraduates is preferred. Interest in active and collaborative learning is an advantage. Enthusiasm for working in a multidisciplinary environment is important.

Employment with the University will require the successful completion of background check(s) in accordance with University policies.
