Advisory Lead — Sustainability & ESG

The role
This is a broad leadership role for an experienced sustainability advisor who enjoys working across multiple disciplines rather than specialising in a single topic. You will lead client engagements, support business development, coach team members and help shape Holtara's advisory propositions. You will work across the full investment and sustainability lifecycle, supporting investors, fund managers, financial institutions and corporates with their most important sustainability challenges.
The ideal candidate combines strategic thinking with practical implementation experience and is comfortable working across ESG strategy, sustainable finance, reporting, due diligence, value creation and regulatory developments. You will report to the Head of Advisory and work closely with colleagues across Advisory, Holtara.io and Apex Group globally.
What you will do
Client delivery & engagement leadership
Lead complex sustainability and ESG engagements from proposal through delivery.
Act as a trusted advisor to investors, fund managers, financial institutions and corporates.
Translate sustainability challenges into practical, commercially relevant solutions.
Manage senior client stakeholders and build long-term relationships.
Sustainability & ESG Advisory
ESG and sustainability strategy
Responsible investment and ESG integration
Sustainable finance and impact investing
ESG reporting and disclosure (SFDR, CSRD, EU Taxonomy and related regulations)
ESG and sustainability due diligence
Portfolio monitoring and ESG data management
Climate and decarbonisation strategies
ESG value creation programmes
Sustainability operating models and governance
Business Development Client & Growth
Develop trusted relationships with existing and prospective clients.
Support commercial activities, proposals and pitch processes.
Identify opportunities to expand client relationships and cross-sell services.
Contribute to thought leadership and market positioning.
Team
Coach and develop junior and mid-level advisors, and support a high-quality, collaborative team culture.
What you bring
7+ years of experience in sustainability consulting, ESG advisory, sustainable finance, strategy consulting, private markets, financial services or a related field.
Experience leading client engagements and managing senior stakeholders.
Strong experience across ESG strategy, sustainable finance, reporting, responsible investment, ESG due diligence, climate, impact and value creation.
Strong project and stakeholder management skills.
Experience supporting business development and proposal processes.
Team leadership and coaching capabilities.
Entrepreneurial mindset and willingness to build.
Practical details
Location. Amsterdam / Netherlands — hybrid, with travel to clients and Holtara offices as needed.
Reporting line. Head of Advisory, working closely with advisory leadership, the technology team and Apex Group colleagues.
Education. Degree in finance, economics, business, sustainability or a related discipline. Professional fluency in English required; Dutch an advantage.
