We don’t believe in rushing jobs or cutting corners—we give our installation team the time they need to do every job right the first time.
Co-managed by our owner, Nick, and our Installation Manager, Baelin (who brings 14+ years of industry expertise to the table), Pend Oreille Mechanical offers a supportive, growth-focused culture. About the Role
We are seeking a skilled, customer-focused Lead Residential HVAC Installer to join our growing team. In this critical role, you will be the face of quality installation on residential retrofit and replacement jobs. Beyond executing high-level technical work on modern heating and cooling systems, you will serve as a leader on the job site - guiding 1-2 apprentices, setting positive expectations with homeowners, and ensuring every project ends with a thrilled customer. If you take pride in clean installs and enjoy helping others grow, this role is built for you.
What's In It for You
-
Competitive Base Pay: $28.00 – $34.00 per hour (commensurate with experience).
-
Daily Incentive Pay: Earn an additional $25.00 per day just for executing standard daily expectations (punctuality, clear photos, job site documentation).
-
Punctuality: Present and on time for the 7:00 a.m. morning meeting (late arrival forfeits that day's incentive).
-
Documentation: Complete daily job logs and submit a minimum of 10 photos per day (capturing before/after conditions, equipment data plates, connections, and field conditions).
-
Customer Education: Review all blue folder materials (system operation, maintenance, warranty) with the homeowner.
-
Customer Satisfaction: Maintain a minimum average customer review rating of 4.5 stars.
-
Quality Execution: Zero installation-related recalls (any return visit required to fix workmanship or missed steps forfeits the incentive for that day).
-
-
Company-Paid Tech School: We invest in your future by paying for your tech school (1 Saturday/month, Sept–May) as you work towards taking your Journeyman test.
-
Year-Round Stability: We do everything in our power to keep your schedule full—guaranteeing full-day hours even during slower winter periods.
-
Mentorship & Career Growth: Learn directly from our Install Manager, Baelin (14 years of experience), and gain hands-on custom fabrication skills in our full sheet metal shop. We prioritize promoting from within!
-
Comprehensive Benefits: Medical, Dental, and Vision coverage, plus a 401(k) plan.
-
Time Off: Paid Time Off (PTO) and paid holidays.
-
Perks: Assigned company van, complete uniforms provided, and quarterly full-day team training sessions.
Core Responsibilities
-
Daily Prep: Attend an in-person 15–30 minute morning team meeting to review the day's jobs, double-check pre-packaged warehouse materials, and ensure your van stock and apprentice are ready to hit the road.
-
Lead Jobsite Execution: Manage and execute high-quality residential replacement installations (furnaces, AC units, heat pumps, mini-splits, unit heaters, and variable-speed systems).
-
Apprentice Mentorship: Direct, mentor, and teach 1 to 2 apprentices on proper techniques, safety, and workmanship.
-
Homeowner Experience: Walk homeowners through the project process upfront, answer questions, maintain a clean workspace, and deliver exceptional, friendly service.
-
Job Closeout: Complete thorough end-of-job walkthroughs using our customer "blue folder," teach homeowners how to operate their new equipment, and collect final payments.
-
Technical Mastery: Accurately calculate sub-cooling, use manometers to set gas pressures, and properly wire complex variable-speed control setups.
Required & Preferred Experience
-
Experience: Minimum 4+ years in residential HVAC (must include at least 2 years as a Lead Installer and 2 years as an Apprentice).
-
Specialization: Strong background in residential retrofit and replacement installations (not new construction).
-
Technical Knowledge: Proven experience swapping out furnaces and mini-split systems efficiently, plus working familiarity with variable-speed equipment, sub-cooling calculations, and gas pressure setup. (Experience with boiler installations is a strong plus!)
-
Licensing & Education: No Journeyman license required upfront, but must be willing to enroll in company-paid technical school (1 Saturday/month from Sept–May).
-
Vehicle & Location: Must possess a valid driver’s license (to operate assigned company van) and reside within a maximum 45-minute commute of our office in Sandpoint.
- Environment:
- Ability to lift 50+ lbs and consistentl pick up and carry 25 lbs up to 250 ft unassisted
- Ability to work on concrete floors, roofs, scaffolding and in tight spaced and comfortable working indoors and outdoors in extreme temperatures both hot and cold
