Description
In Charge Electrical Services is one of the fastest-growing residential electrical subcontractors in the country. Headquartered in Austin, Texas, we operate 18+ locations across Texas, Florida, Arizona, and South Carolina, with a team of roughly 600 people. We're scaling fast through organic growth and an active acquisition strategy while staying true to the culture that built us.
The Opportunity
We're creating the new position of Vice President of Human Resources. Reporting to the CFO, you'll improve and lead the strategic HR function for a scaling multi-state organization shaping talent strategy, total rewards, compliance, and M&A integration while our HR Director continues to run day-to-day HR operations and reports into you.
What You'll Do
- Serve as a strategic HR advisor to the CFO, CEO, and executive leadership team, aligning people strategy with the company's growth and acquisition goals.
- Improve the HR function's infrastructure, policies, and team capacity to support continued scale beyond ~600 employees and 18 locations.
- Establish HR metrics and reporting that give leadership visibility into workforce trends, cost, turnover, and compliance risk company-wide.
- Lead HR due diligence and integration planning for acquisitions, including benefits harmonization, compensation alignment, HRIS/payroll consolidation, and cultural integration of acquired teams.
- Partner with Accounting and legal counsel to build a repeatable HR integration playbook as the company continues to acquire regional electrical services businesses.
- Own post-close employee communications, retention strategy, and Day 1 readiness for newly acquired locations.
- Own enterprise-wide employment law compliance across all operating states (currently Texas, Florida, Arizona, and South Carolina), partnering with outside counsel as the company enters new states.
- Oversee the employee handbook, wage-and-hour classification, leave administration (FMLA, PWFA, PUMP Act, and state-specific leave laws), background screening, and I-9/E-Verify compliance.
- Ensure HR practices support the company's licensed-trade workforce, coordinating with licensing, safety, and fleet/MVR programs as needed.
- Build scalable recruiting capability across both field roles (electricians, technicians, apprentices) and corporate/leadership positions.
- Partner with the SVP of People Development and operating leaders on workforce planning to support branch growth and new-market entry.
- Own employer brand and candidate experience, including oversight of the applicant tracking system.
Work with the executive team on:
- Philosophy and structure, including market benchmarking, pay equity, and incentive design across a geographically dispersed workforce.
- Benefits strategy, including plan design, broker and vendor management, and self-funded plan administration.
- Ensuring total rewards remain competitive and cost-effective as the company scales.
- Own HRIS/payroll strategy and drive process standardization and automation as headcount and location count grow.
- Deliver people analytics that inform executive decision-making on headcount, turnover, cost per hire, and compliance exposure.
- Build performance management, leadership development, and succession planning frameworks appropriate for a scaling, founder-led organization.
- Steward company culture through rapid growth and multiple business combinations, ensuring consistency across a decentralized, multi-location workforce.
- Build, mentor, and lead the HR team, including the HR Director and HR administrative staff, as the function scales.
What You Bring
- 10+ years of progressive HR leadership experience, including at least 5 years in a senior HR leadership role (VP, Head of HR, or equivalent).
- Demonstrated experience leading HR in a multi-state, multi-site organization (500+ employees across numerous locations strongly preferred).
- Direct experience with HR due diligence and post-acquisition integration.
- Deep working knowledge of multi-state employment law, wage-and-hour compliance, and leave administration.
- Experience with HRIS and applicant tracking systems.
- Proven experience designing and managing employee benefits programs, including self-funded medical plans.
- Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Ability to travel regularly to branch locations across Texas, Florida, Arizona, South Carolina, and future locations.
- Background in construction, home services, field services, or another skilled-trades/blue-collar workforce industry.
- SPHR, SHRM-SCP, or equivalent HR certification.
- Experience partnering directly with a CFO or CEO.
What We Offer
- A newly created, high-visibility role with direct influence over the company's growth trajectory.
- The opportunity to significantly improve a strategic HR function at a rapidly scaling company.
- A competitive compensation and benefits package.
- Direct partnership with the CFO, CEO and executive leadership team.
