Why Sparke Helmore?
As an independent Australian firm with a long history and a big heart, we have a rich story to tell. Our spirit is built on the power of relationships with our people, clients and communities.
At Sparke Helmore, you’ll be actively involved as part of a diverse, genuine and friendly team. We’ll help you harness your ambition and take your skills to new heights with exposure to outstanding clients and easy access to exceptional leaders and mentors.
Your story is yours to define. We’d like to be part of it and for you to be part of ours.
Due to a significant period of growth within the team and across all our practice groups in Brisbane, we have an exciting opportunity for a Lawyer to Associate to join our Workplace team in Brisbane, working with Partners, Jackson Inglis and Thea Price.
About the team and the work
- Join one of Queensland's largest and most respected workplace teams, advising private sector and government clients across employment, workplace health and safety, industrial relations and regulatory matters.
- Work alongside experienced employment, industrial relations and safety practitioners, including an Accredited Specialist in Workplace Law, gaining direct exposure to complex and high-profile matters from an early stage in your career.
- Advise and represent clients in relation to workplace incidents, regulatory investigations, discrimination matters, industrial disputes and prosecutions arising under workplace health and safety legislation.
- Develop advocacy skills through exposure to tribunals and courts, with opportunities to attend client meetings, investigations, mediations and hearings.
- Benefit from exceptional client relationships, including secondment opportunities, while collaborating with colleagues across our national Workplace practice and broader firm.
- Enjoy structured mentoring, ongoing professional development and genuine opportunities for career progression in a flexible and supportive environment.
About you
- Admitted to practice with 0-2 years' PQE, gained in private practice, government or an in-house legal team.
- Strong academic credentials and a genuine interest in employment, industrial relations and workplace health and safety law.
- Some exposure to workplace matters, including employment disputes, disciplinary processes, workplace investigations, discrimination matters, industrial relations or safety incidents, will be highly regarded.
- Strong attention to detail, sound judgement and a proactive approach to learning and professional development.
- Advocacy experience is advantageous but not essential. We also welcome applications from lawyers with either contentious or advisory experience who are keen to broaden their skillset.
