POSITION SUMMARY: Mariani Landscape is hiring a Procurement Buyer. The Procurement Buyer will coordinate all the details with purchasing plant material for the entire company. This associate interacts with the design team, greenhouse staff, construction staff, maintenance staff, and administrative support on a regular basis and other departments throughout the company. This associate participates in vendor and tagging trips throughout the season.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The essential functions of this position include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Follow company policies, procedures, and work standards.
- Purchase highest quality plant material available, while negotiating the best price of plant material.
- Purchase containers, bulbs, and other plant-related materials as needed.
- Follow the purchasing process (i.e. using agreements, dissemination of information to departments and production, etc.).
- Order and receive plant material to meet the needs of the Construction and Maintenance Departments.
- Coordinate shipping and deliveries to meet the needs of the Construction and Maintenance Departments.
- Record and promote inventory of available returned material.
- Oversee and participate in loading and unloading of plant materials.
- Work closely with the Grower on internal plant material.
- Work with Project Directors, Design Directors, Designers, and Client Representatives to review and discuss inventory reports.
- Inform Project Directors, Design Directors, Designers, and Client Representatives of relevant issues regarding securing specific plant material.
- Participate in vendor, offsite, and out-of-state tagging trips to locate appropriate and needed plant material.
- Coordinate tagging of material in the yard for proper name and size.
- Recommend and advise Purchasing Manager of plant material inventory.
- Identify new vendors and nurseries for future purchases.
- Maintain a source file of plant availability.
- Approve plant material invoices in a timely manner.
- Create purchase orders and complete in-house change orders as needed.
- Communicate any status or internal issues and/or concerns to the Purchasing Manager in a timely manner.
- Work independently and within a team on special and nonrecurring, as well as ongoing projects.
- Consistently evaluate work and determine if further steps are needed to meet internal and external client expectations.
- Participate in weekly departmental and training meetings.
- Complete appropriate paperwork in a timely manner and ensure accuracy of all paperwork, including time-off requests and other necessary information.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- At least 2 years professional experience required, preferably in a plant buyer position.
- Demonstrate advanced knowledge of landscape terminology and plant materials.
- Ability to work in a team environment, including taking direction and constructive feedback from team members, as well as providing feedback to other team members.
- Minimize non-productive time and fill slow periods with activities that will enable you to prepare to meet the future needs of internal and external clients.
- Demonstrate strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with Mariani associates and vendors on a consistent basis.
- Ability to deliver quality results under tight deadlines.
- Demonstrate working knowledge of general computer functions and Microsoft Office programs.
- Demonstrate accountability for plants being delivered on schedule.
- Demonstrate flexibility to perform duties wherever volume deems it necessary.
- Ability to navigate and use, with success and accuracy, the company production software.
