JOB DESCRIPTION FOR THE POST OF:
Peating plant engineer
Responsible to: Engineering manager- Engineering Team leader
Responsible for: Not applicable
Minimum Qualifications / Experience: Proven engineering background with a wide range of electrical and mechanical experience. Ideally trained to Level 3 Electrical & Mechanical qualifications including- 18th Edition-BS7671. Other Trade skills-certificate: IPAF, PASMA, Forklift, Site Safety passport, Confined space training etc.
Hours of Work Flexible approach expected. Mainly 8:00-16:00 37.5hrs/week. But expected flexibility- two shift pattern. 6:00—14:00 hrs & 14:00 – 22:00hrs (30 min lunch 7.5hr shift).
MAIN OBJECTIVES:
To be part of the Malt Engineering team responsible for the maintenance and continued efficient & safe running of the Peating plant-Huggett and occasional assist of the Main Maltings plant Bridlington. To be responsible for prioritising the work load, carrying out a range of electrical and mechanical engineering works, including planned maintenance, small projects, installations & breakdown repairs etc.
The role dictates a high level of working autonomously, with minimal supervision, Decision making is a key element to a level agreed with the Engineering manager & is a key factor to this role.
You will be expected to participate in the call out programme and to respond to emergency breakdowns, also integral to any shutdown programme. This cover is for out of hours callout 365 days/year. However, if cover cannot be provided due to prior commitments etc, Call out cover will be provided from the Bridlington engineer on Call.
This job description will operate in conjunction with the Engineering progression plan.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Day to Day
• Plan attendance hours to maximise engineering presence around critical Peating plant processes, eg , Kiln loading and burner first ignition. This can mean 6:00am starts and finishing 21:00hrs on alternate days.
• To provide a dynamic and proactive response to Engineering breakdowns, in order to maximise production and minimise plant downtime.
• Plan access to perform preventive maintenance tasking as per allocation from the Shire CMMS system.
• Participate and update all taskings from CMMS Shire system, Prioritising tasks, breakdowns and preventative maintenance task.
• To work flexibly and respond to the changing demands of the work, adapting to new work routines and practices accordingly.
• To provide engineering breakdown call-out cover out to ensure that an efficient “out of hours” breakdown service is maintained.
• Liaise with Contractors, coming to site, raising work permits to work applicable to task.
• Take the lead when problem solving and performing route cause analysis.
General Maintenance activities.
• General day to day repairs within skillset and training.
• To carry out plant modifications and ensure plant is properly lubricated.
• To participate in all aspects of maintenance work associated with plant shutdowns in the and Malting plants.
• To undertake planned maintenance routines as guided by the Engineering Manager/ Team leader.
Plant Hygiene
• Ensure all tools and equipment are removed from the food processing areas when completing tasks.
• Ensure the engineering workshop is tidy and maintains a good standard of house- keeping.
• Ensure spills are controlled and kept to a minimum.

Administration
• Respond to our on site customers request, providing updates via- email & shire system.
• Generate work orders, identify PM’s that have differing inspection/lubrication requirements, modify the PM scheduler to suit.
• Keep up to date on tasks and include all information – work done-when updating Shire CMMS.
• Submit accurate descriptions of spare parts requested.
• Provide weekly performance reports.
KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS ( General)
• Identify energy efficiency improvements /opportunities: eg, compressed air leaks, Lights left on- PIR sensors, Automatic Drain down timers etc.?
• Keep outstanding PM’s <10 per week.
• Keep outstanding Tasks <10 per week.
• Ensure time taken is logged on CMMS for every task/Preventative maintenance completed.
• Ensure whenever a required a handover of tasks are communicated effectively via written information, email or applicable application.
• Ensure stock /spares consumed are logged and passed onto Workshop supervisor/Manager.
SITE APPLICABLE OBJECTIVES ( non exhaustive).
Electrical:
• Successfully fault find on electrical control and power systems identifying & including intermittent- faults on Kiln, Conveying & elevator control systems, LPG system, Gas burner, Destoner, Container loader, Site Fire alarm system, Fire suppression system, LEV system, Connect
• Calibrate unload weigher slides and through weigher.
• Access Production PLC programmes via GX develop & Prodigy. Identify correct steps in said programme-performing device test- force on/off, step programme forward and back to enable the process to function as required.
• Understand and modify Batch database via Sequel server.
• Identify reasons for a Motor overloading, Test/ change failed motors, select correct equivalent alternative if needed to get process up and running.
• Swap out/install motor drive inverters, selecting correct size and correct setting parameters for safe efficient use.
• Test and swap PT100’s temperature probes, K Type thermocouples and temperature transmitters, including testing & simulating 4-20mA control loops.
Electro-mechanical:

• Fault find and repair pneumatic solenoid valves, cylinders.
• Fault find and test electrical actuators on valves and air louvres.
• Fault find, test & adjust electric brakes on motors.
• Correctly select correct replacement Motor/gearbox combination, Perform a complete swap out of a motor/ gearbox on plant equipment.
• Fault find and test pumps, electrical and pneumatic.
Mechanical
• Identify and repair failed bearings on Helix shafts, GV stub shafts, motors, conveyors & elevators.
• Perform repairs to helix shafts, GV stub shafts.
• Repairs to belt conveyors & drums bearings
• Repairs and adjust elevator belts.
• Repairs to conveyor haulage chain, adjust and tension.
• Perform safe adequate welding repairs on plant equipment: conveyor shafts and conveyor flighting, etc
COMPETENCIES
• Ability to work autonomously- Making decisions- Priorities workstreams inline with business needs.
• Generate work orders, identify PM’s that have differing inspection/lubrication requirements, modify the PM scheduler to suit.
• Capability to provide, engineering, production & health and safety improvements (including safe working practices and risk assessments).
• Strong electrical and mechanical background on plant within a manufacturing environment.
• Working knowledge of PLCs, input/output card, use of HMI’s & Scada systems.
• Good base of fundamental and proven electrical skills
• To contribute toward improving and maintaining the standards of the production team.
• A flexible attitude to a range of tasks and work situations.
