Description

About National Fair Housing Alliance

The National Fair Housing Alliance (NFHA) leads the fair housing movement and is the nation's only national organization exclusively dedicated to eliminating all forms of housing discrimination and ensuring equitable housing opportunities for all people and communities. We have a diverse, experienced, mission-driven, and impactful team that has developed equity-based policies at the federal, state, and local levels to expand fair housing opportunities; brought precedent-setting litigation to eliminate some of the most heinous forms of housing discrimination; conducted groundbreaking research to promote equitable solutions; and invested millions of dollars in underserved communities. We have solid relationships, built on trust, with national, regional, and local organizations, and we effectively draw upon these connections to reach vital goals. We are game changers that millions of people rely upon to advance fair housing.

Where you live matters. It affects every aspect of your life and determines whether you have access to the options and opportunities we all need to thrive. Yet despite important existing federal laws, more than 4 million acts of housing discrimination occur in the U.S. each year, and housing inequality remains stubbornly entrenched. That is why—through its education and outreach, member services, public policy, advocacy, housing and community development, responsible AI, enforcement, and consulting and compliance programs—NFHA is dismantling longstanding barriers to equity, rooting out bias, and building diverse, inclusive, well-resourced communities.

Position Summary

NFHA is seeking a Senior Product Manager to join its Responsible AI Lab (RAIL) and manage the development and commercialization of an AI-powered civil rights compliance product for housing advertising platforms. The product is a first-of-its-kind evaluation and monitoring layer that tests AI-generated housing content against the Fair Housing Act Section 804(c) standards. The Senior Product Manager will serve as the product owner, driving the product from prototype to market-ready across a build period.

This is a full-time, grant-funded position based at NFHA's Washington, DC office. We cannot consider any applicants who need visa sponsorship at this time, however, we will consider those with an OPT work authorization tied to their F-1 visa.

Essential Job Functions

Product Strategy and Roadmap Ownership

  • Define and maintain the product roadmap across all customer-facing segments.

  • Own product-market fit: translate civil rights compliance requirements and customer needs into clear product specifications, user stories, and acceptance criteria.

  • Set and track milestone-level product goals aligned to the grant timeline, ensuring deliverables are met on schedule and within budget.

  • Make prioritization decisions on scope, sequencing, and tradeoffs in consultation with the Chief AI Officer and Full-Stack AI Engineer.

Customer Traction and Market Development

  • Lead customer discovery and validation across target segments: AI developers, housing platform operators, fair housing enforcement organizations, and civil rights agencies.

  • Develop and manage external pilot relationships, including with NFHA member organizations and state civil rights divisions.

  • Build and maintain a prospect pipeline for post-grant commercial deployment, including engagement with proptech companies, real estate platforms, and advertising technology firms.

  • Present the product prototype externally at conferences, regulatory convenings, and partner meetings.

Cross-Functional Team Leadership and Delivery Coordination

  • Serve as the connective tissue between the technical team and civil rights practitioners.

  • Facilitate sprint planning, milestone reviews, and weekly team standups, ensuring dependencies are identified and resolved proactively.

  • Manage the product backlog and translate regulatory and enforcement requirements into actionable engineering specifications.

  • Report on product progress, risks, and decisions to the Chief AI Officer on regular cadence.

Revenue Model Development and Grant Stewardship

  • Develop and iterate the fee-for-service revenue model for the product.

  • Support the Resource Development team in identifying follow-on funding opportunities that sustain the product beyond the initial grant period.

  • Manage the product budget in coordination with NFHA's finance team, ensuring expenditures are accurate, documented, and compliant with grant requirements.

  • Contribute to grant reporting by providing product milestone evidence, user data, and market traction documentation.

Qualifications and Competencies

Experience

  • A Bachelor’s degree is required, with a Master’s Degree preferred, in any of the following fields: Computer Science, Information Systems, Business Administration, Technology Management, or a related field.

  • Minimum of two years (with a Master’s degree) or four years (with a Bachelor’s degree) in product management with at least two years minimum experience in a senior or lead product role

  • Demonstrated experience taking a product from conception to prototype or early-stage development, with a preference for those taking product to market launch.

  • Experience working with technical teams on software or API-based products, including familiarity with agile or sprint-based development methodologies.

  • Experience in at least one of the following is preferred: regulatory technology (regtech), legal technology (legaltech), AI/ML products, compliance software, civil rights technology development (civictech), or financial services technology.

  • Experience with government, nonprofit, or mission-driven organizations is preferred.

Knowledge

  • Product management principles and frameworks: road mapping, backlog management, user story writing, acceptance criteria, and sprint planning.

  • Software development lifecycle (SDLC) and how product managers operate within engineering teams.

  • API-based product architectures and the basics of how connectors, SDKs, and monitoring layers function.

  • Market research and customer discovery methodologies, including how to design and conduct user interviews and synthesize findings into product decisions.

  • Revenue model design for B2B software products, including SaaS, API licensing, and fee-for-service structures.

  • Fundamentals of AI and machine learning as they relate to product development — sufficient to communicate effectively with engineers and researchers without requiring deep technical expertise.

  • Basic familiarity with civil rights, fair housing, or consumer protection regulation is preferred; candidates who do not have this background must demonstrate willingness and capacity to develop it quickly.

Skills

  • Proficiency in product management tools, e.g. Jira and Microsoft Planner.

  • Proficiency in data analysis and product metrics: ability to define KPIs, read dashboards, and make evidence-based decisions from product usage data.

  • Proficiency in collaboration and communication tools: e.g. Slack, Google Workspace, Microsoft 365 or equivalent documentation platforms.

  • Familiarity with API documentation and testing tools (e.g., Postman, Swagger) sufficient to evaluate and communicate about technical specifications.

  • Ability to produce clear, structured written documents: product requirement documents (PRDs), milestone reports, stakeholder briefings, and grant progress reports.

  • Familiarity with UX/UI principles sufficient to evaluate wireframes, prototypes, and user flows and provide actionable feedback to designers and engineers.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range for this role is $120,000 - $130,000 annually. Salary is commensurate with experience.

NFHA offers an excellent benefits package:

  • 100% paid health, vision, and dental coverage for employees and dependents

  • 100% paid life, short-term disability, and long-term disability insurances

  • Employer contribution to 403(b) retirement plan, independent of employee participation

  • Comprehensive paid time off benefits including holidays, vacation, and sick leave

How to Apply

Interested applicants need to submit a resume and cover letter. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.

Please no phone calls and incomplete applications will not be considered.
