Senior Manager of Content and Communications
Marketing and Communications

St. Edward's University of Austin, Texas invites applications for the position of Senior Manager of Content and Communications. The Senior Manager of Content and Communications leads multichannel storytelling initiatives and media outreach to advance the university's reputation and thought leadership, support enrollment, engage alumni and donors, and enhance the campus community experience. Reporting to the Senior Director of Content and Communications, this role helps develop and implement strategic initiatives that elevate institutional reputation, support revenue generation, engage key audiences, and promote the university's mission. The ideal candidate is a strategic thinker and creative storyteller who can translate complex, high-level institutional goals into human-centered, channel tailored multimedia narratives that resonate with students, stakeholders, and the broader community.

For consideration, minimum qualifications include:

  • Bachelor's degree (or equivalent experience) in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Public Affairs, or a related field.
  • 5 to 8 years of professional experience in integrated marketing and communications, with a proven track record in digital storytelling, media relations, internal communications, and crisis messaging.
  • Strong strategic planning skills, with experience optimizing and distributing multi-channel content for both internal and external audiences.
  • Proven experience developing and implementing comprehensive communications plans, including drafting high-level strategy documents and defining core messaging.
  • Experience advising on or supporting executive communications, reputation management, and crisis communications.
  • Demonstrated success developing and managing editorial calendars and overseeing complex content lifecycles from initial concept to multi-platform distribution.
  • In-depth understanding of the media landscape with a network of press contacts and a track record of securing strategic, high-impact media placements.
  • Exceptional professional judgment with the ability to manage complex stakeholder relationships, navigate ambiguity, and drive projects independently.

Preferred Qualifications include:

  • General working knowledge of issues in higher education, as well as a familiarity of University policies and operations.

Essential Responsibilities Include:

  • Drive the university's digital storytelling footprint by leading the development of integrated content strategies and maintaining a centralized editorial calendar.
  • Align content with institutional positioning to deliver brand-consistent messaging that supports student recruitment and retention, alumni/donor engagement, and overall community impact.
  • Elevate storytelling quality by championing narratives that highlight faculty expertise, research, student success, and donor/alumni impact to inspire and engage target audiences.
  • Partner with key institutional stakeholders (including Academic Affairs, Enrollment Marketing, Advancement, and Student Affairs) to identify high-impact storytelling opportunities.
  • Drive multi-channel audience engagement by owning the university's social media editorial calendar and directing content distribution across all major social platforms and the News Center to amplify institutional stories.
  • Leverage data and emerging trends to measure content performance, provide data-driven recommendations to leadership, and integrate innovative digital strategies to keep storytelling content relevant.
  • Develop and execute proactive media outreach to advance the university's strategic goals, elevate its reputation, and secure high-impact placements across print, broadcast, digital, and emerging multimedia platforms.
  • Drive earned media opportunities by strategically positioning faculty and staff thought leadership against timely national and regional trends; author high-level communications materials including press releases, op-eds, pitches, talking points, and media advisories.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for incoming media inquiries while managing the journalist database, coordinating press events, and providing interview preparation for university spokespeople.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Director of Content and Communications to implement internal communication strategies that inform and engage faculty, staff, and students.
  • Advise senior leadership on communication opportunities and challenges, collaborating with campus partners to ensure the alignment and amplification of messaging.
  • Support senior leadership through the Crisis Management Team with issues management, crisis response, and reactive media inquiries.
  • Other duties as assigned, trained for and qualified to do.
