The Insurance and Warranty Program Accounting team is seeking a senior analyst. This role is responsible for ensuring that the device insurance and warranty program activities are accurately presented under US GAAP and IFRS accounting standards. T-Mobile’s insurance and warranty program entity produces stand-alone financial statements as well as consolidating with T-Mobile’s overall financial statements. The ideal candidate will be a team player with a solid foundation in accounting, financial statement preparation and controls, and strong critical thinking, technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Core functions will include monthly close responsibilities, SOX and financial audit compliance, process improvements and other projects as needed within the team. This position can work with finance and operations teams throughout the company including Product & Technology, Financial Planning & Analysis, Financial Reporting, Accounting Policy, SOX and across Operational Accounting teams to ensure proper accounting, reporting and control environment.Job Responsibilities:
• Perform monthly close activities related to the insurance and warranty program, including preparation and review/posting of journal entries, reconciling general ledger accounts, performing account analysis and supporting financial statement preparation for the insurance legal entity
• Analyze and validate financial activity utilizing multiple systems and reporting tools
• Design and produce supporting schedules to understand business drivers and explain their effect on financial results to ensure business changes are accurately reflected in the financial statement and communicated to business partners
• Review third-party contracts and ensure they are properly administered and accounted for
• Understand your process area, including: accounting concepts, risks, controls, accounting transaction, system flows for transactions, dependencies and how output produced by the team is being used, in order to identify improvements to drive efficiencies or more effective processes
• Effectively align with appropriate departments and third-party partners to provide end-to-end support of insurance and warranty accounting
• Provide subject matter expertise for insurance and warranty accounting to business and finance partners and facilitate internal and external financial reporting processes
• Proactively identify issues and process improvement opportunities; recommend solutions and work with appropriate business partners to resolve or assist with implementation
• Use accounting concepts, wide-ranging experience, analytical skills and knowledge of industry to identify and resolve issues in creative and effective ways
• Collaborate with other team members to drive team goals
• Respond to inquiries from business partners and effectively align with them to achieve business objectives
• Ensure compliance in meeting Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) requirements
• Provide support for the audits performed by internal and external auditors
• Assist in creating ad hoc and monthly reports from multiple sources, as needed
• Perform special projects as requested
Qualifications:
• Strong understanding of accounting theory and accounting systems – Oracle
experience a plus
• Excellent interpersonal, decision-making and analytical abilities
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to communicate effectively with different levels within the organization
• Comfortable expressing concerns and ideas during interactions and meetings
• Strong organizational and time management skills and the ability to balance a large group of diverse projects simultaneously with excellent attention to detail
• Ability to resolve complex problems positively and professionally with minimal
supervision
• Ability to interpret and apply accounting theory to accounting operations/scenarios
• Ability to understand complex contracts and determine accounting implications
• Ability to analyze large volumes of data from multiple systems, as needed
• High proficiency in Excel required
• SQL, Snowflake, Databricks, and Alteryx experience preferred, but not required
• A great team player with an upbeat positive attitude
Education and Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required
• 3+ years of relevant accounting experience, preferably within a large company accounting environment, with 1+ years public accounting preferred
• CPA or equivalent preferred
• Telecommunication industry experience preferred
• Insurance industry experience preferred
