COP | Pharmaceutical Evaluation & Implementation (Jacob T. Painter)

Department's Website:

Summary of Job Duties:

The Division of Pharmaceutical Evaluation & Policy in the UAMS College of Pharmacy seeks a Postdoctoral Fellow to contribute to an NIH-funded R01 evaluating the effectiveness, equity implications, and cost-effectiveness of pharmacist scope-of-practice policies for HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis, or PrEP. The fellow will work under the general supervision of the Principal Investigator and collaborate with an interdisciplinary research team in pharmaceutical policy, health services research, epidemiology, HIV prevention, health economics, and simulation modeling.

The fellow will conduct analyses using medical and pharmacy claims data to examine the effects of pharmacist scope-of-practice policies on PrEP initiation, prescription abandonment, retention in care, use of oral and injectable PrEP, and new HIV diagnoses. Responsibilities will include constructing longitudinal study cohorts, developing and validating claims-based outcome measures, integrating claims data with policy and geographic data, and applying causal inference and quasi-experimental methods to evaluate policy effects. The fellow will also collaborate with the research team to incorporate empirical findings into an agent-based model and cost-effectiveness analysis and to translate study findings into a decision-support toolkit for public health agencies and policymakers.

The fellow is expected to lead and co-author peer-reviewed manuscripts, prepare abstracts and presentations for scientific meetings, contribute to progress reports and grant proposals, document reproducible analytic workflows, and provide research guidance to students and research assistants. The position will provide structured mentorship in causal inference, claims-data analysis, health policy evaluation, simulation modeling, economic evaluation, scientific writing, and grant development to support progression toward an independent research career. Salary will be commensurate with experience, expertise, and University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences guidelines.

Qualifications:

  • Doctoral degree in health services research, health economics, pharmacoepidemiology, epidemiology, biostatistics, pharmaceutical outcomes and policy research, public health, economics, public policy, pharmacy administration, or a closely related field.

  • Demonstrated experience analyzing large healthcare datasets, including medical claims, pharmacy claims, prescription transaction data, electronic health records, or similar data sources.

  • Experience conducting health policy evaluations and/or quasi-experimental research studies.

  • Established record of peer-reviewed publications and/or scientific presentations.

Additional Information:

Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrated experience conducting quantitative research using longitudinal healthcare, administrative, population-level, or similarly complex datasets.

  • Training or experience in regression analysis, longitudinal data analysis, causal inference, quasi-experimental research, or related quantitative methods.

  • Proficiency in at least one statistical programming language, such as R, Python, or Stata.

  • Experience integrating individual-level data with state, county, geographic, or policy data
