Description
Manulife GHNW integrates Bermuda, Hong Kong, Singapore, and the Middle East to deliver Global High Net Worth insurance solutions. The Bermuda branch is a core service and execution platform within GHNW, supporting growth through strong governance, disciplined risk management, partner enablement, and high-quality client service.
The GM Bermuda leads the day-to-day management and execution of Manulife’s Bermuda HNW platform. The role is accountable for translating GHNW strategy into Bermuda-specific operating plans, managing local execution across distribution enablement, underwriting, service, operations, finance, risk, compliance, and product implementation, and influencing matrix partners to deliver business outcomes. The successful candidate will be required to spend at least 51% of their time in Bermuda and may be required to travel across GHNW business locations.
Bermuda Franchise Leadership & P&L
Lead Bermuda’s annual operating plan and performance rhythm, including revenue, expense, service, risk, and operational metrics; provide inputs to GHNW leadership on P&L drivers, capital considerations, and regulatory matters relevant to the Bermuda branch.
Coordinate the Bermuda Leadership Team across dedicated and matrixed functions, ensuring clear priorities, decision discipline, issue escalation, and alignment with GHNW objectives:
Distribution Enablement
Underwriting & New Business
Client Service/Operations
Finance
Risk & Compliance (incl. AML/CTF, sanctions)
Actuarial/Product
Marketing/Partner Experience
Drive underwriting discipline, service standards, and operational effectiveness tailored to global HNW clients; partner with GHNW regional teams to improve onboarding, case management, and partner experience.
Strategy Execution & Transformation
Translate GHNW priorities into Bermuda-specific execution roadmaps, including product implementation, service digitization, partner experience, and operating model improvements; track delivery against agreed KPIs for growth, efficiency, risk, and profitability.
Product & Risk Governance
Support the execution and governance of Bermuda HNW products, ensuring product, actuarial, finance, legal, risk, and compliance partners are aligned on implementation requirements and regulatory expectations.
Maintain strong suitability, KYC/AML, sanctions, and cross-border compliance practices for Bermuda HNW business, working closely with GHNW Legal, Tax, Risk, and Compliance teams.
Talent, Culture & Operating Excellence
Build and guide a high-performing Bermuda team and matrix operating model; strengthen underwriting, service, operations, and risk capabilities while reinforcing a client-focused culture consistent with GHNW’s value proposition.
Establish disciplined performance routines, including clear SLAs, turnaround times, quality measures, risk indicators, and partner/client feedback loops.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree required; MBA, actuarial, insurance, risk, or related professional designation preferred.
12+ years of progressive experience in life insurance, HNW, wealth, distribution, operations, risk, or related financial services roles, with meaningful exposure to Bermuda and/or cross-border insurance business.
Experience leading teams or matrixed functions, managing business execution, and navigating large, complex organizations.
Preferred Qualifications:
Strong knowledge of HNW life insurance, preferably across Bermuda and Asia markets, with practical understanding of underwriting, new business, servicing, distribution enablement, and product implementation.
- Demonstrated ability to translate business strategy into actionable plans and lead execution across multiple teams, functions, and stakeholders.
- Working knowledge of Bermuda regulatory expectations and risk disciplines relevant to HNW insurance, including suitability, KYC/AML, sanctions, premium financing, and cross-border considerations.
- Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess complex business and operational issues, evaluate trade-offs, and develop practical recommendations.
- Sound judgment in prioritizing competing business, client, operational, and risk considerations.
- Proven implementation capability across multi-functional plans, with accountability for follow-through, governance, and measurable outcomes.
- Clear written and verbal communication, with the ability to translate complex information into actionable business guidance.
- Ability to influence and build alignment with senior stakeholders, matrix partners, and cross-functional teams.
- Strong people leadership skills, including coaching, performance management, prioritization, and team engagement across locations.
- Commercial orientation with disciplined focus on growth, profitability, client outcomes, risk management, and operational excellence.
- Ability to create synergies by leveraging people, data, and infrastructure to improve Bermuda execution and GHNW connectivity
