The Opportunity:
We are looking for a Junior Paralegal to join our Legal team at our Corporate Head Office in Brisbane, reporting directly to our Group Legal Counsel.
This is more than an opportunity to support a legal function; it’s an opportunity to build the foundations of your in-house legal career within a large, fast-moving and diverse business. You’ll gain hands-on exposure to a broad range of legal and commercial matters, supporting FLG’s brands across Australia, New Zealand, Thailand and emerging jurisdictions.
Working closely with our Group Legal Counsel and partnering with teams across the business, you’ll be involved in everything from commercial agreements, consumer disputes, property and regulatory matters through to intellectual property and corporate transactions. You’ll also have the opportunity to see how legal advice is applied in a complex, multi-brand organisation and contribute to practical solutions that enable the business to grow.
If you're a second or third-year law student looking to develop your professional skills alongside your studies, this role provides the opportunity to develop your technical capability, commercial understanding and stakeholder skills under the guidance of experienced legal leadership.
In this role you will have the opportunity to learn quickly, take on meaningful work and develop a broad understanding of commercial law in-house to build a strong foundation for your future legal career.
This role is two days a week (Tuesdays and Thursdays), based in our West End office. We understand student’s have varied availability and are happy to offer flexibility around exam periods. Please note this role is in-office only and work-from-home is not available.
Key Duties and Responsibilities Include (but are not limited to):
Working under the supervision of Group Legal Counsel, you will assist with:
Drafting responses to subpoenas, non-party disclosure requests and requests under the Australian Privacy Principles;
Due diligence in contractual and transactional matters;
Drafting letters and other formal correspondence;
Collating member and company records for regulatory investigations, litigation and administrative and civil tribunal proceedings;
Digital and paper file management;
Legal research; and
General administrative support.
Skills & Experience:
This role is best suited to a 2nd – 3rd year law student looking to gain experience in the legal profession across a range of matters.
We are looking for someone with:
Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel;
Good communication and interpersonal skills;
Strong organisational and time management skills;
Attention to detail; and
A positive attitude.
This is a development opportunity. Prior experience in a similar role and an interest in in-house practice is valued but not essential.
