Role description:
The AI Governance Manager will be responsible for defining, implementing, and operating AI governance frameworks that ensure the safe, compliant, ethical, and value driven use of AI across the organisation, aligned with enterprise strategy, regulatory obligations, and risk appetite.
Role accountabilities:
- Act as a recognised subject matter leader for AI governance, risk, and responsible AI practices across the organisation.
- Provide guidance, coaching, and direction to delivery teams, platform teams, and business stakeholders on compliant and responsible AI adoption.
- Influence senior stakeholders by clearly articulating AI risks, controls, and trade‑offs in business relevant terms.
- Collaborate closely with Legal, Risk, Security, Privacy, Data, Tech Compliance and other leaders to embed governance into operating models.
- Deep understanding of AI governance, responsible AI principles, model risk management, and lifecycle controls.
- Strong working knowledge of AI/ML concepts, data pipelines, model development, deployment, and monitoring.
- Ability to interpret and apply relevant regulations, standards, and frameworks, including AI Act–style regulation, data protection, security and ethics.
- Experience defining and operating governance controls such as risk assessments, approvals, audits, and monitoring.
- Ability to translate technical AI concepts into clear governance requirements and policy controls.
- Accountable for the effective design, adoption, and continuous improvement of AI governance processes and controls within assigned scope
- Act as a key member of the extended AI / Data / Platform governance community responsible for meeting enterprise risk, compliance, and performance objectives.
- Contribute to shared ownership of enterprise AI standards, policies, and assurance outcomes.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Extensive experience in AI governance, technology governance, risk management, information governance or a related discipline, with a proven track record of supporting responsible AI adoption within complex global organizations.
- Demonstrated ability to operate independently on complex and ambiguous AI governance matters, applying sound judgement to assess risks, resolve challenges and drive effective outcomes through collaboration and influence.
- Strong understanding of AI governance principles, responsible AI frameworks and risk management practices, with the ability to balance innovation, business value and appropriate governance controls.
- Experience developing, implementing or supporting governance frameworks, policies and standards that promote the safe, ethical and compliant use of AI and digital technologies.
- Strong analytical and risk-based thinking, with the ability to evaluate emerging technologies, identify potential risks and recommend practical governance solutions that enable innovation while protecting organizational interests.
- Experience working in regulated or risk sensitive environments involving data, artificial intelligence, machine learning or digital platforms, ensuring compliance with organizational policies and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Good understanding of data governance, privacy, information security and technology risk management principles, with the ability to assess the broader impact of AI enabled solutions.
- Excellent stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships and collaborate effectively with technology teams, legal, risk, compliance and business stakeholders across a matrixed organization.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain complex AI governance concepts clearly to both technical and non technical audiences.
- Strong problem solving capability, with experience assessing governance challenges, interpreting regulatory requirements and implementing practical solutions that strengthen governance maturity.
- Leadership style that promotes collaboration, accountability, innovation and continuous improvement, aligned with the Arcadis Leadership profile of being curious, driving success and igniting passion.
- Degree level education in Information Technology, Computer Science, Data Science, Information Governance, Risk Management, Law or another relevant discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
- Professional certification in AI governance, information governance, risk management, data privacy or cybersecurity is desirable.
