Planning Policy Officer (Contract)
Location: Northern England (Hybrid)
Rate: £50 per day (Inside IR35)
Overview
An opportunity has arisen for a Planning Policy Officer to support the preparation and delivery of Local Plan and wider planning policy work within a local authority. You will assist across a range of policy, research and monitoring activities, contributing to the Council’s spatial planning objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the preparation of Local Plan documents, Supplementary Planning Documents (SPDs) and Neighbourhood Plans
- Assist with evidence base work, including research, data analysis and review of supporting studies
- Contribute to monitoring and reporting, including the Annual Monitoring Report and maintenance of planning policy datasets
- Provide planning policy input to development proposals and assist with policy interpretation
- Support public consultation exercises and stakeholder engagement activity
- Assist in drafting reports, briefings and responses to planning consultations
- Work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners to support planning policy projects
Requirements
- Degree in Town Planning or related discipline
- Understanding of the UK planning system and policy framework
- Strong written, analytical and organisational skills
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment
Desirable:
- Previous experience in a local authority or planning environment (including placements or internships)
- Awareness of Local Plans, SPDs or planning policy processes
- Experience with GIS or data handling
