Key Responsibilities

As an Accountant, you will play a key role in maintaining accurate financial records, supporting financial reporting, and providing valuable insights that help organizations make informed business decisions. Responsibilities will vary depending on the level and specific opportunity.

Financial Reporting & Month-End Close

• Prepare journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules to ensure accurate financial reporting.
• Assist with month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes while maintaining strict reporting deadlines.
• Prepare or support the preparation of financial statements and management reports.

General Accounting

• Perform balance sheet and bank reconciliations while investigating and resolving discrepancies.
• Maintain the general ledger and ensure financial transactions are recorded accurately and in accordance with accounting standards.
• Support accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, fixed assets, and other accounting functions as required.

Financial Analysis & Compliance

• Analyze financial information to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for process improvements.
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning activities where applicable.
• Support internal and external audits by preparing documentation and responding to auditor requests.
• Ensure compliance with company policies, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements.

Systems & Process Improvement

• Utilize accounting and ERP systems to maintain accurate financial records and improve reporting efficiency.
• Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and strengthen internal controls.
• Participate in system implementations, upgrades, or process improvement initiatives when required.

Collaboration & Business Support

• Work closely with finance teams and cross-functional departments to provide financial information and support business operations.
• Build positive relationships with internal stakeholders, vendors, and external partners.
• For senior-level opportunities, provide mentorship to junior accounting staff and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

To succeed in this role, candidates should demonstrate:

Education & Experience

• Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
• Experience ranging from entry-level to senior accounting roles, depending on the opportunity.
• Progress toward or completion of a CPA designation is considered an asset for many opportunities.
• Experience in industries such as manufacturing, construction, energy, professional services, real estate, non-profit, or public practice is considered an asset.

Technical Skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including formulas, pivot tables, and data analysis.
• Experience using ERP and accounting software such as SAP, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, NetSuite, Sage, QuickBooks, JD Edwards, or similar systems.
• Strong understanding of full-cycle accounting principles and financial reporting.
• Knowledge of IFRS, ASPE, or other applicable accounting standards.
