Automation Technical Lead

Applied Materials India PrimeVision division (E-Beam Wafer Inspection) develops advanced semiconductor inspection solutions combining sophisticated hardware and software technologies. Our software organization is focused on delivering scalable, reliable, and high-quality software solutions that support next-generation inspection platforms
As part of our transformation towards modern microservices-based architectures, we are looking for an experienced Automation Technical Lead to define and drive the automation strategy, framework architecture, and quality engineering standards across multiple product teams. This role will be instrumental in building scalable automation capabilities and enabling high-quality software delivery across all testing layers.

We are a 60+ member software engineering organization with a strong focus on delivering reliable, scalable, and high-quality software solutions. Our Quality Engineering organization consists of Automation and QA engineers responsible for ensuring software quality across the development lifecycle.
As we modernize our applications into cloud-native and microservices-based platforms, we are investing in reusable automation frameworks, common quality engineering practices, and scalable test architectures that enable teams to deliver faster while maintaining high quality standards.
Key Focus of the Role: Define and drive Automation Test Architecture, Framework Strategy, Standardization, Quality Governance, and Automation Enablement for a modern microservices ecosystem, while ensuring high-quality engineering standards across Component, Integration, API and End-to-End testing layers.
Roles and Responsibilities
Automation Strategy & Leadership
Define and own the Automation Testing strategy across microservices-based platforms.
Establish automation standards, best practices, governance models, and quality engineering guidelines.
Drive adoption of consistent automation approaches across multiple product teams.
Mentor engineering teams on effective use of Generative AI and AI-assisted development tools within automation workflows.
Identify opportunities where AI can reduce automation maintenance costs and improve overall test coverage.
Automation Architecture & Framework Design
Define automation architecture supporting Component, Integration, API and End-to-End testing.
Design and evolve reusable automation frameworks, shared libraries, utilities, and common testing services.
Drive framework standardization and commonality across teams to maximize scalability.
Establish test automation design principles that ensure scalability, maintainability, reliability, and efficiency.
Ensure automation solutions provide strong debuggability, reporting, traceability, and execution visibility.
Quality Enablement
Define testing strategies and quality standards for distributed and microservices-based applications.
Establish best practices for API testing, service integration testing and end-to-end validation.
Define automation approaches for applications deployed on Docker and Kubernetes platforms.
Partner with Development, QA, DevOps, and Platform Engineering teams to improve product testability and automation readiness.
Recommend and drive improvements that increase automation effectiveness, framework reuse, and quality consistency across services.
Automation Technical Leadership
Mentor and guide Automation Engineers and Technical Leads on automation architecture and quality engineering practices.
Lead technical reviews for automation frameworks, test strategies, and quality initiatives.
Evaluate and recommend tools, technologies, and methodologies to improve automation capabilities.
Present automation strategy, quality status, and roadmap updates to engineering leadership.
Influence organizational adoption of automation standards and engineering excellence practices.
Our Ideal Candidate
Overall 8+ years of experience in Software Quality Engineering and Test Automation.
Minimum 3+ years of experience leading enterprise-scale automation initiatives.
Proven experience defining automation architecture and enterprise automation frameworks.
Strong understanding of how AI can improve test design, test generation, maintenance, defect analysis, and productivity.
Deep expertise across Component, Integration, API and End-to-End testing.
Strong knowledge of microservices architectures and distributed systems testing.
Experience building reusable automation platforms and common testing capabilities used by multiple teams.
Strong understanding of CI/CD, Continuous Testing, DevOps, and Shift-Left Quality practices.
Experience defining automation solutions for containerized environments using Docker and Kubernetes.
Proficiency in Java, Python, and/or TypeScript.
Experience with Playwright and modern automation technologies.
Excellent problem-solving, analytical, communication, mentoring, and stakeholder management skills.
Ability to influence technical direction and drive quality engineering adoption across teams.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Electronics Engineering, Information Technology, or related technical discipline.
Additional Advantage
Knowledge of modern software delivery and release practices.
Semiconductor domain experience is an added advantage.
