Mammography Technologist II: Level II is intended for candidates with 4-6 years of mammography experience, current ARRT certification in Radiography, Mammography, or 1-3 years of mammography experience with a Breast Sonography [ARRT(R)(M)(BS)], This level of technologist demonstrates advanced clinical competency in breast imaging. If you do not meet the 4 years of experience, technologists must be credentialed in Breast Sonography through either ARRT or ARDMS, further expanding one’s expertise and versatility within breast imaging services. For team members who have not yet obtained this credential, Denver Health is committed to supporting your professional growth and advancement by providing on-the-job training and development opportunities to help you achieve certification. Denver Health has had a very high success rate team members achieving this goal.  Upon successful completion of the Breast Sonography certification examination, Denver Health will reimburse the cost of the exam. If you do not meet these requirements, the Mammography Technologist I pay range is from $35.47 - $53.21 and requires current ARRT(R)(M) certification and requires a minimum of 1 year of experience.

Job Summary

Performs screening and diagnostic mammograms and breast ultrasounds at a technical level not requiring constant supervision but at the direction of a radiologist. Performs a variety of technical imaging procedures that entail application of ionizing radiation; therefore, prudent judgment, strong technical skills, and a commitment to patient safety are considered requisite professional characteristics for individuals assuming the position as a senior mammography technologist. Another secondary component of this job involves assisting the radiologist in performing interventional breast procedures and breast ultrasound examinations in order to contribute to a diagnosis.


Essential Functions:
 

  • Performs screening and diagnostic mammograms following appropriate assessment by clinicians. (60%)

  • Assists radiologists during interventional procedures, (breast biopsies, needle localizations). Such assistance may include procedures preparation, post-procedural patient care to include, but not limited to, breast compression, retrieval of ice, and delivery of biopsy specimen to laboratory. (20%)

  • Ensures patient safety, comfort, and personal dignity by following appropriate patient care guidelines to include use of 2 patient identifiers. (5%)

  • Operates, on a day-to-day basis, PACS applications to include: archiving activities; image auto-routing; and prefetching tasks; image quality assurance and other related activities. (5%)

  • Assists in the maintenance of department inventory by ordering, stocking, and performing inventory checks on those medical supplies utilized when performing general radiographic examinations. (5%)

  • Ensures that the Mammography department is appropriately equipped and maintained in a clean, safe, and hazard-free manner. (5%)


Education:
 

  • Associate's Degree Required


Work Experience:
 

  • 4-6 years Performing screening and diagnostic mammograms. Required OR

  • 1-3 years Performing screening and diagnostic mammograms. Required and completed American Registry of Radiologic Technologists registered with Breast Sonography (BS) specialty Required


Licenses:
 

  • RTR-RT Radiography - ARRT - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Required and

  • RTM-RT Mammography - ARRT - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists Required and

  • BR - Breast Sonography ARDMS - ARDMS - American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography OR RTBS-RT Breast Sonography - ARRT - American Registry of Radiologic Technologists


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
 

  • Knowledge in how to operate digital mammography equipment and related technology.

  • Competency in the performance of screening/diagnostic mammograms as well as interventional breast procedures.

  • Knowledge in how to operate breast ultrasound equipment and related technology.

  • Knowledge of how to address age-specific care needs of patients.

  • Effective interpersonal skill sets that lead to productive communications and collaborations.

  • Competency in interpreting physician order requests for screening/diagnostic breast examinations.

  • Ability to exercise prudent judgment in selecting and configuring equipment settings to compensate for patient physiologic variances.

  • Ability to consistently produce quality images related to the breast region.

  • General Computer Knowledge
