Description
Citi is looking for a Senior Credit Risk Officer to join the Independent Risk Management team supporting the Citi Commercial Bank (CCB), with accountability for independent credit assessment and decisioning across a diverse portfolio of Australian commercial clients. The Citi Commercial Bank serves mid-market and commercial clients across Australia, providing a full suite of banking solutions — from lending and treasury to trade and working capital — backed by Citi's global network and expertise. In this senior role, you will hold individual credit authority and play a decisive part in maintaining the quality and integrity of the CCB's lending portfolio while enabling new business growth. This is a high-visibility opportunity to operate at the forefront of credit risk management within one of the world's leading financial institutions.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a final credit approver for the Citi Commercial Bank, exercising individual delegated credit authority to credit proposals across new transactions, renewals, and modifications.
- Assess complex credit proposals by evaluating borrower financial performance, credit structure, industry dynamics, business strategy, and key risk factors to form well-substantiated credit decisions.
- Conduct both historical and forward-looking financial analysis, including detailed cash flow modelling, to evaluate repayment capacity and inform credit outcomes.
- Monitor an assigned portfolio of commercial client credits, identify early signs of credit deterioration, and collaborate with business partners to design and execute risk mitigation strategies.
- Ensure all credit decisions and portfolio activities comply with Citi's risk management policies, procedures, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate effectively with Relationship Managers, Underwriters, and other front-line teams to provide constructive guidance on credit structuring and risk identification, maintaining a balanced approach to risk and commercial opportunity.
- Mentor junior risk analysts and business partners, building credit analysis capability and reinforcing sound risk practices across the team.
- Contribute to portfolio reviews, stress testing, and strategic risk initiatives, delivering insights on portfolio trends, concentrations, and emerging risks to senior leadership.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- A minimum of 12 years of experience in corporate banking, credit risk management, or a related financial services discipline, with formal credit training as a foundation.
- Demonstrated experience as a credit officer holding delegated credit authority, with a track record of independent credit decisioning on complex transactions.
- Extensive experience managing credit for mid-market or large corporate clients, including in-depth financial statement analysis and cash flow modelling.
- Expert knowledge of credit principles, loan structuring, lending practices, and risk management frameworks.
- Strong analytical and quantitative capability, with the ability to interpret complex financial information and make clear, well-supported credit judgements.
- Effective communication and influencing skills, with the ability to present and defend credit positions clearly to both specialist and non-specialist stakeholders.
- In-depth familiarity with loan documentation and credit structuring conventions, combined with the ability to operate with a high degree of independence and integrity in a fast-paced, global environment.
Beneficial Skills & Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or a related field provides a strong foundation for this role.
- An MBA, CFA, or other advanced qualification is highly regarded and reflects the analytical depth expected at this level.
