The Position:
Assistant Director of Human Resources, Benefits and ComplianceJob Summary:
The Assistant Director of Human Resources, Benefits and Compliance is responsible for the administration, coordination, and continuous improvement of the College’s employee benefits, leave, and compliance programs. Reporting to the Assistant Vice President for Human Resources, the Assistant Director serves as the primary operational resource for benefits and leave administration and provides guidance to employees, supervisors, vendors, and campus partners on program requirements, processes, and related compliance obligations.Key Responsibilities
- Lead the administration of health and welfare, retirement, disability, life insurance, COBRA, and related benefit programs.
- Manage FMLA, disability, workers’ compensation, and other leave processes, including notices, documentation, tracking, and return-to-work coordination.
- Serve as the primary HR resource for benefits and leave questions and resolve or escalate complex employee and vendor issues.
- Coordinate annual open enrollment, plan renewals, employee communications, and benefit education.
- Support compliance with ERISA, COBRA, HIPAA, ACA, FMLA, ADA, and other applicable requirements.
- Coordinate regulatory reporting, required notices, audits, plan documentation, and compliance calendars.
- Maintain accurate benefits and leave data in Workday or another HRIS and perform regular audits and reconciliations.
- Manage day-to-day relationships with benefit carriers, third-party administrators, consultants, and the College’s benefits broker.
- Partner with Payroll, Finance, Information Technology, and other campus offices to ensure accurate and timely outcomes.
- Recommend and implement improvements to benefits, leave, compliance, and HR operational processes.
Minimum Qualifications.
While no one person may possess all the qualifications listed below, the ideal candidate will have many of the following professional experiences and characteristics:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Benefits Administration, or a related field; an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
- Four or more years of progressively responsible human resources experience, including significant experience administering employee benefits, leaves, or compliance programs.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of applicable benefits and leave requirements, including FMLA, COBRA, HIPAA, ADA coordination, workers’ compensation, and disability administration.
- Experience managing confidential employee matters, vendor relationships, recurring compliance activities, and cross-functional processes.
- Experience using an HRIS and producing, reviewing, or reconciling benefits and employee data.
- Strong written, verbal, interpersonal, analytical, and organizational skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to fostering an inclusive academic and professional environment where all members of our campus community are respected, valued, can succeed, and thrive.
Preferred Qualifications
- Human resources or benefits experience in higher education, nonprofit, public sector, or another complex, service-oriented environment.
- Workday experience, including benefits, absence, reporting, business processes, or HCM functionality.
- SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, SPHR, CEBS, CBP, or comparable professional certification.
- Experience coordinating annual open enrollment, benefit plan renewals, regulatory reporting, audits, or plan-document administration.
- Experience supporting ADA accommodations, HIPAA privacy obligations, workers’ compensation, and leave integration

This is a full-time, year-round position located in Allentown, PA.
