The UHealth system at the University of Miami has an exciting opportunity for a full time Accounting Analyst in the UHealth Finance Department.
SUMMARY
The Accounting Analyst - UHealth Accounting, holds an important role in the periodic financial reporting activities. The Accounting Analyst - UHealth Accounting, analyzes financial activities, prepares financial reports, audits requests, and any ad-hoc reports needed for strategic decision making.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
Prepares and enters month-end journal entries
Extracts data for analysis and interpretation. Reviews material of account variances.
Prepares monthly general ledger/balance sheet reconciliations.
Supports the preparation of financial reporting deliverables on a periodic, quarterly, and annual basis.
Prepares reports for management and other departments, utilizing report writing capabilities.
Prepares documentation for external auditors and provides assistance, as needed.
Conducts quantitative and qualitative analysis on a broad array of issues across disciplines, projects, and functional areas. Structures and executes analysis independently.
Analyzes and monitors financial data, trends, and indicators.
Supports understanding of business processes, goals, and strategy to provide analysis and interpretation to management.
Conducts research on identified key business issues.
Assists in developing and maintaining advanced excel spreadsheets for a variety of applications.
Defines and documents policy and procedures to meet established accounting and company standards.
Works with existing data resources and develops/refines those resources to constantly improve the accuracy of financial reporting.
Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field preferred
Experience:
- Minimum 2 years of relevant experience
- Two years of accounting, finance, or related experience preferred.
- Experience with month-end close processes, journal entries, reconciliations preferred.
- Experience in healthcare, academic medical center, or not-for-profit environments is a plus.

DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC JOB SUMMARY
The Accounting Analyst - UHealth Finance supports the Accounting team with department-specific accounting activities, with a primary focus on Miller School of Medicine (MSOM)-related month-end close responsibilities. The role assists with the preparation of assigned journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, and variance analyses, and works with departments and team members to obtain supporting information as needed. The position also supports financial reporting, month-end close activities, and cross-training efforts within the accounting team.
Department Specific Job Functions
Prepare, review, and submit assigned journal entries, accruals, and month-end accounting deliverables accurately and by established deadlines.
Prepare monthly balance sheet and general ledger reconciliations for assigned accounts, departments, projects, or worktags and assist with follow-up on reconciling items as needed.
Prepare monthly variance analyses for assigned accounts and assist in researching and explaining significant fluctuations.
Review general ledger activity and supporting documentation to ensure the accounting information accuracy and on time.
Coordinate with internal departments and business partners to obtain supporting documentation, clarify transaction activity, and follow up on missing or delayed information needed for close.
Support monthly and fiscal year-end close activities, including the preparation of schedules, supporting documentation, and other financial reporting deliverables.
Maintain organized working files and clear support for journal entries, reconciliations, analyses, and audit requests in accordance with department expectations.
Participate in team cross-training and support backup coverage for assigned accounting processes during peak periods, absences, or transition periods.
Equivalent combination of education and relevant accounting or finance experience may be considered.
