This Position reports to:
R&D Department LeadYour role and responsibilities:
You will be a member of the ABB India Corporate Research Center (INCRC), at the ABB Innovation Center (AIC) located in Bangalore, India. INCRC researchers perform high-end research on diverse topics to develop cutting-edge technologies for ABB’s global businesses to propel the organization towards a productive and sustainable future. We collaborate with other ABB corporate research centers, R&D units, and academic institutes. The position offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic, global, and creative environment, collaborating with a wide range of experience and expertise. You will work in applied research projects, developing innovative Control and Artificial Intelligence technologies toward building intelligent autonomous systems for the Industry, Transport, and Infrastructure sectors.
The work model for the role is Onsite
You will be mainly accountable for:
Requirements gathering and identification of use cases to aim towards fully autonomous process plants, and minimizing expert interventions in designing, deploying, and maintaining advanced control applications
Evaluation of the state-of-the-art Control and Artificial Intelligence approaches and/ or development of a new approach for identified use cases.
Development of a proof of concept, prototypes, and support in pilot evaluation and productization of solutions.
Contribute to building and managing the laboratory setup for experimental research
Communication of project results to Technical experts and Management.
Creation of Intellectual property (invention disclosures) and publications in scientific journals and conferences.
Travel to customer sites and ABB locations on a need basis.
Qualifications for the role (Mandatory)
Ph.D. in Chemical/ Control/ Electrical/ Instrumentation/ Mechanical engineering with a strong publication and patent record, with a minimum of 7 years of experience; industrial research experience is preferred.
Experience in the development of model-based or model-free controllers, such as Model Predictive Control, Approximate Dynamic Programming, and Reinforcement Learning
Knowledge of operation and control in the process industry e.g., Oil and Gas, Pulp and Paper, Metals, etc, is preferred.
Good knowledge of Deep Learning, Reinforcement Learning, Supervised and unsupervised learning, Multivariate statistics, Time-series analysis, Signal Processing, and related areas.
Experience in the usage of Machine learning for the development of predictive maintenance, diagnosis, and monitoring solutions.
Proficiency in Matlab and Python programming languages.
Ability to communicate effectively in English with internal and external partners, including the academic community.
