JPI has an exciting opportunity for an Integration Lead to join our DfX team in the Central region. This role is the technical and strategic connective point across design, permitting, and commercial work streams on assigned projects, driving coordination and problem-solving to keep design, approvals, and vendor commitments aligned through the DFX project life cycle. The Integration Lead drives integration excellence by providing hands-on expertise and guidance to keep projects on track, working alongside Technical Leads and Permit Leads as a subject matter expert in design coordination, regulatory strategy, and cross-functional problem-solving.
The position reports to the Director, DfX.
Essential Functions & Responsibilities
DFX Process Integration & Coordination
- Drive integration strategy across technical, permitting, and commercial work streams on assigned projects, mentoring Technical Leads and Permit Leads to align on requirements and keep the DFX process moving end to end.
- Lead identification and resolution of open items, decisions, and hand-offs across the full DFX life cycle, guiding the team to close gaps before they turn into schedule or cost impacts.
- Establish and document best-practice process steps and hand-off points across the DFX life cycle, building organizational knowledge and a consistent, repeatable approach across projects.
- Identify issues early and guide resolution by connecting the right stakeholders, serving as the technical authority on integration strategy and process excellence.
Design Phase Risk Management
- Lead constructability reviews and de-risking sessions at every design milestone, guiding Technical Leads to integrate findings into the next phase and establish continuous improvement practices.
- Own critical systems validation with consultants and trade partners, establishing standards for validation protocols and mentoring Technical Leads on closeout procedures.
- Track the risk register and mitigation plan across projects, connecting design, permitting, and commercial inputs so open items don't stall between hand-offs.
- Establish standards for drawing package quality and lead reviews to identify and prevent issues that historically cause rework or schedule impacts.
Permitting & Regulatory Ownership
- Lead resolution of permitting issues as they arise across projects, guiding Permit Leads through problem-solving and providing expertise to clear roadblocks and keep approvals moving.
- Lead the permitting strategy for assigned projects, establishing best practices for milestone tracking, submittal management, and delay mitigation across the team.
- Serve as the lead technical contact with AHJ representatives on complex or high-risk issues, confirming requirements and translating agency feedback; mentor Permit Leads on standard engagement protocols.
- Develop interpretation frameworks for agency feedback and translate into design and construction direction; share expertise with the team to build capability and avoid rejections or restarts.
- Establish and maintain a knowledge base of city-specific requirements—including startup procedures, Temporary Certificate of Occupancy (TCO), Certificate of Occupancy (CO), and inspection sequencing—and guide alignment with building phasing plans.
Value Analysis
- Lead Best Value analysis and decision-making across construction, design, and development teams, ensuring outcomes are reflected in IFC (issued for construction) drawing sets and establishing evaluation frameworks.
- Develop evaluation criteria and lead analysis of alternative systems or materials that offer lifecycle cost benefits without sacrificing design intent; mentor team on value engineering methodology.
- Maintain historical cost data and constructability benchmarks; leverage this data to validate Best Value recommendations and build organizational knowledge on value engineering outcomes.
Vendor Procurement & Commercial Integration
- Lead vendor selection and procurement strategy for integration-related scopes, establishing qualification criteria and award methodology from evaluation through contract award.
- Monitor soft-cost budgets for assigned projects against plan; identify variances early and guide corrective action with budget owners.
- Drive alignment between technical execution, cost, and contract terms by leading cross-functional discussions with preconstruction and purchasing teams.
- Establish integration protocols between technical and commercial work streams throughout the DFX phase; mentor team on balancing technical excellence with commercial constraints.
AI, Automation
- Uses approved enterprise AI tools (e.g., Claude Cowork, Microsoft Copilot) to draft, summarize, analyze, and accelerate everyday work.
- Leverage AI and other digital tools to document and then automate workflows effectively.
Non-Essential Functions & Responsibilities
- Other duties as assigned.
Education, Work Experience, & Physical Requirements
- Bachelor’s in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture or a related field.
- 1-4 years of progressive experience in design coordination, construction management, and/or permitting/regulatory strategy, preferably in the multifamily industry, with demonstrated subject matter expertise.
- Expert-level knowledge of construction sequencing, drawing details, utility coordination, and permitting/AHJ processes. Advanced proficiency with Procore, Bluebeam, Oracle Primavera Cloud, AutoCAD, Revit, and permit tracking systems; ability to mentor others on these tools.
- Proven experience in design feasibility, constructability assessments, and permit strategy across multiple jurisdictions.
- Experience with vendor procurement and soft-cost budget management.
- Demonstrated thought leadership and ability to guide teams through complex, multi-stakeholder coordination.
