Description

Larkin Hoffman is seeking a Director of Human Resources to lead the Firm’s human resources function and oversee HR programs and services across the Firm. The Director will provide leadership on employee relations, performance management, benefits, policies, and other HR initiatives, while also overseeing key administrative functions and leading and developing the managers and teams responsible for those areas.

This position will work closely with the Firm’s Chief Operating Officer, leadership, Director of Legal Talent, attorneys, managers, and administrative teams to support the Firm’s people and organizational priorities. The successful candidate will be an experienced human resources leader who is able to earn trust, build strong relationships across the Firm at all levels, and serve as a credible and approachable resource on both day-to-day personnel matters and longer-term HR initiatives.
This individual will bring strong employee relations, performance management, benefits, leadership, and organizational skills, along with sound judgment and discretion.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Lead the Firm’s human resources function, including employee relations, performance management, compensation administration, policy development and implementation, compliance, leaves, benefits administration, and other day-to-day HR matters.
  • Oversee the Firm’s Legal Administrative Support Services and Office Services and Facilities functions, ensuring effective service, appropriate staffing, sound processes, and coordination across the Firm.
  • Develop trusted relationships across the Firm and serve as a credible, accessible resource to Firm leadership, attorneys, managers, and employees, providing practical guidance, sound judgment, and consistent application of Firm policies and practices.
  • Manage employee relations matters, including performance concerns, workplace issues, corrective action, investigations, accommodations, leaves, and separations, in consultation with Firm leadership and employment counsel as appropriate.
  • Oversee the performance management process for business professionals, including goal setting, reviews, compensation recommendations, coaching, performance improvement, and professional development.
  • Lead recruiting, hiring, onboarding, integration, and offboarding for business professional positions, partnering with hiring managers to identify staffing needs and ensure an effective and consistent process.
  • Supervise assigned administrative and human resources professionals, providing direction, coaching, development, and accountability.
  • Partner with the Director of Legal Talent on Firmwide people and talent initiatives and coordinate responsibilities where attorney and business professional matters intersect.
  • Partner with Firm leadership on organizational structure, staffing, succession planning, employee engagement, retention, change management, and other longer-term human resources priorities.
  • Oversee and coordinate Firm employee events and internal communications, including the holiday party, quarterly breakfasts, summer event, RAD Committee activities, employee recognition, and other Firmwide programs.
  • Maintain current knowledge of employment laws, regulations, and human resources best practices and recommend changes to Firm policies and practices as appropriate.

Education and/or Experience:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Leadership, or a related field required.
  • Master’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Organizational Development, or a related field preferred.
  • Professional certification such as SHRM-SCP, SPHR, or a comparable human resources credential preferred.
  • Minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible human resources experience, including significant leadership experience and at least seven years of supervisory and management experience leading managers and multidisciplinary teams, including demonstrated success developing leaders, building high-performing teams, and driving organizational performance.
  • Demonstrated experience leading human resources strategy and administration, including employee relations, talent acquisition, performance management, compensation, benefits administration, workforce planning, organizational development, and employment law compliance.
  • Significant experience overseeing employee benefits and leaves, including benefits administration, leave administration, 401(k) plans, and profit-sharing programs, with responsibility for vendor relationships, compliance, plan changes, and employee communications.
  • Experience partnering with executive leadership on workforce planning, organizational strategy, change management, and other strategic business initiatives.
  • Demonstrated experience leading administrative functions, with responsibility for managers and teams, budgets, vendor relationships, facilities, and other administrative services.
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams within a professional services organization preferred.
  • Experience in a law firm or other professional services organization strongly preferred.
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered.
Compensation:
The starting base compensation range for this position is between $140,000 and $170,000/year and represents the Firm’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the starting compensation at the time of posting. We generally expect the starting salary for a successful candidate to fall near the midpoint of the range, with actual compensation determined based on several factors, including but not limited to, the candidate’s years of experience, qualifications, skill set, and other relevant factors. This position is also eligible for an annual discretionary bonus.
