About the Opportunity

Reporting directly to the President & CEO, the Director of Human Resources serves as a strategic partner to executive leadership while also providing hands-on leadership of all HR operations. This position is responsible for developing and executing human resource strategies that align with NCI's mission and organizational goals.

The successful candidate will lead initiatives that strengthen workforce recruitment and retention, foster employee engagement, ensure regulatory compliance, leverage HR technology, and support a high-performing organizational culture. 

Key Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership and vision for a forward-thinking, high-performing HR function.
• Serve as a key member of the Executive Leadership Team and trusted advisor to organizational leaders.
• Develop and implement innovative workforce recruitment and retention strategies to attract and retain direct care,      supervisory, and administrative staff.
• Ensure compliance with all federal and state employment laws and regulations, including ADA, FMLA and PFML, ERISA,      workers' compensation, and related employment requirements.
• Oversee employee relations, performance management, investigations, and risk management activities.
• Serve as administrator for NCI's 403(b) retirement plan and ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
• Lead the development, review, and implementation of HR policies, practices, and procedures.
• Leverage technology and data analytics, including Paylocity HRIS, to improve operational efficiency and provide meaningful      workforce insights.
• Develop and monitor HR performance metrics and key performance indicators aligned with organizational goals.
• Mentor, develop, and support the Human Resources team to deliver exceptional service throughout the organization.
• Serve as NCI's primary HR contact for regulatory agencies and employment-related compliance matters.

Location: This position is based in NCI's administrative office in Westbrook, Maine, just outside Portland and within easy access to the many recreational, cultural, and quality-of-life amenities that make Maine an exceptional place to live and work. Relocation assistance is not available for this position.

Requirements

We are seeking a collaborative and accomplished HR professional who brings both strategic vision and operational expertise.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
• Minimum of 10 years of progressive human resources leadership experience.
• Experience leading an HR team within a complex organization of 300 or more employees.
• Thorough knowledge of employment laws, regulations, employee relations, compensation, benefits, and performance management.
• Exceptional leadership, communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Master's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
• SPHR, SHRM-SCP, or equivalent senior-level HR certification.
• Experience within healthcare, nonprofit, human services, long-term care, or other highly regulated environments.
