Description
Overview
LMI is a new breed of digital solutions provider dedicated to accelerating government impact with innovation and speed. Investing in technology and prototypes ahead of need, LMI brings commercial-grade platforms and mission-ready AI to federal agencies at commercial speed.
LMI is seeking a Technical Product Owner to lead the development, delivery, and commercialization of innovative digital solutions for federal customers. This role sits within LMI's Sales Engineering team and combines technical product ownership, customer engagement, solution development, and business growth.
This is not a backlog-only product-owner role. You will own the full product lifecycle: understanding customer needs, establishing product vision and strategy, leading technical delivery, shaping architecture and deployment approaches, developing business cases, and supporting customer acquisition and expansion.
The ideal candidate combines strong technical fluency, product management expertise, commercial instincts, and an understanding of the federal technology landscape. You will work across engineering, sales, capture, delivery, and customer teams to turn emerging technologies and customer requirements into scalable, market-ready solutions.
Responsibilities
What You'll Do
Own the strategy, development, and evolution of digital products and solutions from initial concept and prototype through deployment, adoption, and growth. Establish product visions, roadmaps, release plans, backlogs, and success measures.
Lead small, cross-functional technical teams within Sales Engineering. Translate customer needs into clear epics, user stories, technical requirements, priorities, and acceptance criteria; guide sprint planning, delivery, and product quality.
Engage directly with federal customers, mission owners, and end users to understand operational challenges, existing workflows, technical constraints, and opportunities for modernization and automation.
Identify common customer needs and market opportunities across DoD and civilian agencies. Distinguish reusable product capabilities from customer-specific requirements to support scalable, repeatable solutions.
Guide technical architecture, system design, and integration strategies. Collaborate with engineers and technical stakeholders to determine how solutions connect with enterprise platforms, cloud environments, data systems, APIs, and agency-specific applications.
Shape federal deployment strategies, including FedRAMP, DoD Impact Levels, Platform One or comparable hosting environments, RMF/ATO requirements, security controls, identity and access management, and data handling considerations.
Develop business cases for new and existing solutions. Define target customers, use cases, value propositions, pricing and packaging approaches, implementation strategies, and customer return on investment.
Partner across LMI with sales, account teams, capture, delivery, platform teams, security, and leadership to identify opportunities, develop customer-specific solutions, and convert demand into revenue.
Lead product demonstrations, customer discovery sessions, technical discussions, and solution presentations. Communicate technical capabilities and business value effectively to both executive and technical audiences.
Establish and monitor product performance measures, including customer adoption, user satisfaction, delivery performance, solution reliability, operational efficiency, pipeline growth, revenue, and customer expansion.
Continuously evaluate emerging technologies, market trends, and customer feedback to inform product investments, technical priorities, and future solution development.
Qualifications
What We're Looking For
Demonstrated experience in technical product management, product ownership, software development, technical program management, solution architecture, or a similar role delivering software products and digital solutions.
Demonstrated ability to manage the full product lifecycle, from customer discovery and requirements definition through technical delivery, deployment, adoption, and ongoing improvement.
Strong product judgment and customer empathy. Ability to understand complex operational challenges, identify user needs, and translate them into intuitive, effective technical solutions.
Experience leading agile technical teams and managing product backlogs, roadmaps, releases, priorities, tradeoffs, and stakeholder expectations.
Commercial awareness and experience supporting business development activities, including defining value propositions, developing business cases, estimating ROI, leading demonstrations, and supporting customer acquisition.
Technical fluency sufficient to lead architecture, integration, security, and implementation discussions with engineers, technical teams, and customer stakeholders.
Familiarity with modern software development practices, cloud technologies, APIs, enterprise integrations, DevSecOps, and software delivery methodologies.
Experience with federal software deployment and security requirements, including RMF, ATO processes, FedRAMP, DoD security requirements, Platform One or comparable accredited environments.
Strong communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage effectively across technical, business, and government audiences.
Ability to operate independently in dynamic, ambiguous environments while establishing structure, driving decisions, managing competing priorities, and delivering measurable results.
Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret clearance required; active Secret or Top Secret clearance preferred.
Bonus Points For
Experience developing, launching, or commercializing software products for federal customers.
Background as a software engineer, systems engineer, solution architect, or technical lead.
Experience working with federal agencies, government mission operations, or complex enterprise environments.
Experience with user research, workflow mapping, human-centered design, product analytics, and customer discovery.
Experience developing SaaS platforms, enterprise applications, workflow automation, low-code/no-code solutions, data platforms, or AI-enabled products.
Experience supporting technical sales, solution engineering, capture activities, proposals, and customer demonstrations.
Experience with cloud authorization, continuous ATO, DevSecOps, and deployment across both DoD and civilian-agency environments.
Experience transitioning prototypes, proofs of concept, or pilot solutions into production-ready, scalable offerings.
What Success Looks Like
Within the first year, the Technical Product Owner will have:
Established ownership of assigned products and solutions, with clear product strategies, prioritized roadmaps, delivery plans, and measurable objectives.
Built strong working relationships with technical teams, business stakeholders, and federal customers to deliver reliable, high-quality solutions.
Demonstrated the ability to translate customer needs and mission challenges into actionable requirements and successful product capabilities.
Guided technical architecture, integration, deployment, and security decisions that support scalable and sustainable solutions.
Contributed to business growth through customer demonstrations, solution development, opportunity identification, and technical sales support.
Established meaningful product performance measures and used customer feedback and operational data to drive continuous improvement.
Helped LMI expand its portfolio of innovative, commercially viable digital solutions that deliver measurable value to federal customers.
