What We Pay
The Building Automation Systems Specialist is an exempt position with a starting salary of $66,019 - $75,920 annually.
- Plans and performs preventive and corrective maintenance to ensure safe and reliable operation of BAS-controlled equipment and systems.
- Monitors and evaluates system performance through BAS graphics, trend data, alarms, and field observations.
- Adjust schedules, setpoints, occupancy modes, alarm parameters, and operating sequences to support facility operations and energy efficiency goals.
- Troubleshoots HVAC equipment including chillers, air handling units, rooftop units, VAV systems, cooling towers, pumps, and associated mechanical systems.
- Reads and interprets control drawings, wiring diagrams, mechanical plans, sequences of operation, and technical specifications.
- Performs installation, replacement, and termination of low-voltage control wiring, communication cabling, and BAS field devices.
- Coordinates BAS and HVAC control work with contractors, technicians, and other facility trades to minimize disruption to City operations.
- Responds to work orders and service calls involving building automation, HVAC controls, and related facility systems; prioritizes and completes assignments efficiently and safely.
- Responds to facility emergencies involving HVAC failures, power outages, plumbing leaks, flooding events, and other critical building system issues.
- Regular attendance is an essential function of this position.
- Required to work as an essential employee before, during and after an emergency or disaster, whether natural or acts of war.
- Stay abreast of, and comply with, all City and departmental policies and procedures.
- Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Director or his/her designee.
What You Bring:
Education and Experience:
- Required:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- Four (4) years of progressively responsible experience performing installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of Building Automation Systems, HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) controls, or commercial/institutional HVAC systems required.
- Preferred:
- Associate's degree or technical training in Building Automation Systems, HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) Technology, Controls Technology, or a related field is preferred.
- Experience with Alerton Building Automation Systems preferred.
- Experience in municipal, institutional, healthcare, educational, or multi-building environments preferred.
Training (License and/or Certification):
- Required:
- Valid Texas Driver License required.
- Preferred:
- Alerton, Honeywell, Niagara, or equivalent BAS manufacturer training preferred.
- HVAC (Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning) controls, DDC (Direct Digital Control) systems, or BACnet certification preferred.
- EPA Universal Refrigerant Certification preferred.
- Other trade or safety certifications demonstrating proficiency in related building systems will be considered an asset.
