Salary Range: $40,500 to $50,000

 

The University of St. Thomas has provided a salary range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The specific salary offered will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information.

 

JOB SUMMARY

Reporting to the Director of Athletic Events and Operations, the Assistant Director of Operations and Campus Recreation is responsible for coordinating the management and supervision of assigned intercollegiate athletic facilities, events, recreation and operations on the University of St. Thomas St. Paul campus.

 

This position serves as the primary point of contact for the daily operations of the Anderson Athletic and Recreation Complex (AARC) and is directly responsible for the hiring, training, scheduling, and oversight of student workers, including front desk staff, lifeguards, and facility setups/breakdowns. The Assistant Director also manages access control systems, including card reader permissions and key distribution, for assigned athletic facilities and spaces.

 

Additionally, this role oversees the AARC membership and locker rental programs, ensuring high-quality customer service and operational efficiency. The Assistant Director also leads the Intramural Program, including scheduling, programming, and daily operations, as well as hiring and supervising intramural student supervisors.

 

This position serves to program and promote recreation opportunities for the University of St. Thomas students, faculty, staff and community members. Recreation opportunities include but are not limited to open recreation, large recreation events, health and fitness classes and swim lessons.

 

In support of broader athletic department operations, the Assistant Director will assist the Director with facility maintenance, standard operating procedures (SOPs), emergency action plans (EAPs), and project coordination. This includes regular collaboration with Physical Plant Services, Public Safety, and other campus support units to ensure the safe and effective operation of athletic facilities.

 

The position also includes event management duties for assigned intercollegiate sports. Responsibilities include creating visiting team guides, coordinating with officials, monitoring event logistics (including Perry Weather), supervising event setup and breakdown, and assisting with programming and external event rentals. The Assistant Director will also support efforts to generate revenue through facility rentals and special programming opportunities.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Serve as the primary contact for the day-to-day operations of the Anderson Athletic and Recreation Complex (AARC) and other assigned athletic facilities. Oversee facility scheduling on the Universities 25 pro software, maintenance coordination, access control (card readers and key distribution) through CSGold, and ensure the effective operation of all facility spaces. Manage facility membership and locker rental programs, maintaining accurate records and providing customer support. Submit and manage Request for Services (RFS) tickets in collaboration with campus support units such as the Physical Plant.

  • Hire, train, schedule, and supervise student employees, including front desk attendants, lifeguards, and operations/setup crews. Manage student staff scheduling, ensuring adequate coverage and operational support for all facility areas and events.

  • Coordinate all aspects of the Intramural Sports Program. Develop, schedule, and promote intramural leagues, tournaments, and special events. Hire, train, and supervise intramural student supervisors and officials, ensuring a positive participant experience.

  • Program and promote recreation and aquatics events emphasizing student activities, including but not limited to recreation events, health and fitness classes and swim lessons.

  • Manage events and operations logistics, expenses, visiting team guides, parking and set up/tear down, Perry Weather and after-action meetings of assigned varsity sports.  Serve as the postseason contact for assigned sports as necessary.  Assist with campus coordination efforts for assigned varsity sports to ensure a successful execution. Support external rentals and programming opportunities to generate facility revenue and promote community engagement. 

  • Assist the Director of Athletic Events and Operations with maintenance, and development of EAP’s and SOP’s. 

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Two years of relevant experience in collegiate athletics or a related athletic organization
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends and select holidays, as required by events and facility operations
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively across diverse teams and stakeholders
  • Experience in Social media content creation and engagement strategies

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Sports Administration or a related field

An equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable skills and knowledge have been acquired may be substituted.
