Summary: The Assistant Director of Alumni Engagement is responsible for advancing Lawrenceville’s alumni engagement strategy through direct alumni outreach, volunteer management, and program development. This role oversees regional, professional, affinity , and young alumni initiatives, while managing several Reunion Class Committees. A key focus includes conducting individual alumni visits throughout the year and collaborating with volunteer leaders to strengthen engagement across Lawrenceville’s four pillars: Philanthropy, Volunteerism, Communication, and Experiential. The Assistant Director works closely with the Senior Associate Director of Alumni Engagement and the Senior Associate Director of The Lawrenceville Fund to develop and execute an annual plan that deepens connection and participation among alumni.

This position requires approximately three days of domestic overnight travel per month.

Responsibilities

  • Regional, Professional, and Affinity Based Programming: The Assistant Director of Alumni Engagement manages, supports the School’s regional, professional and affinity programming. Serving as the primary liaison for alumni volunteers, this role collaborates closely with stakeholders to plan strategic programming, cultivate meaningful community connections, and actively recruit new volunteers. Responsibilities include managing a comprehensive annual event and communications plan, executing regular volunteer touchpoints, and traveling to key regions to attend events and meet with volunteers. While the specific management of event logistics remains with the Event Manager, the Assistant Director coordinates closely with that role to ensure seamless execution, ultimately driving deeper engagement and lifelong connection across all global and industry-specific networks. 
  • Young Alumni Engagement and Giving: The Assistant Director of Alumni Engagement will oversee initiatives to engage young alumni across Lawrenceville’s four pillars of engagement: Philanthropy, Volunteerism, Communication, and Experiential. Responsibilities include developing programs for recent graduates, supporting young alumni events, and fostering relationships that encourage ongoing connection with the School. The Assistant Director will conduct individual alumni visits throughout the year and collaborate with the Senior Associate Director of Alumni Engagement and the Senior Associate Director of The Lawrenceville Fund to implement an annual plan to strengthen engagement across all four pillars.
  • Reunion Class Committees: The Assistant Director, Alumni Engagement will manage at least five Reunion Class Committees. These committees are responsible for encouraging class attendance at Alumni Reunion Weekend, reconnecting with lost classmates, developing class-specific programming for the weekend, and serving as liaisons to their class. Management of these committees will involve organizing regular conference calls, facilitating opportunities for class outreach, and acting as the primary liaison between the classes and the Alumni Office.
  • Other duties as assigned

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or a combination of education and experience, required. 
  • Three (3) years’ experience working in an Alumni and Development office, preferably in an education setting. 
  • 1 to 2 years of management experience required. 
  • Ability to work earnestly and cooperatively in a team environment with co-workers and volunteers and to give and receive feedback on common projects and tasks. 
  • Critical thinker with strong judgment in prioritizing problems and developing solutions. 
  • Ability to work in a friendly, collegial, and timely manner, a thorough appreciation for the goals and mission of Lawrenceville School 
  • Clear, concise and effective writing and speaking skills. This position will require the production of significant correspondence. Proficient in Google Suite with the ability to quickly learn new software solutions such as Raiser’s Edge NXT, Monday.com, and Canva. 
  • Strong attention to detail; ability to handle multiple deadlines. 
  • A strict adherence to confidentiality. 
  • Ability to follow verbal and written directions, maintaining a professional demeanor and restraint at all times. 
  • Demonstrated commitment to community and belonging and to serving the needs of a community with diplomacy and tact.

  • Physical demands are in excess of those for sedentary work. 
  • Must be able to remain on their feet for extended periods of time, go up and down flights of steps, as well as stoop, kneel, crouch, and lift. 
  • Routinely uses standard office equipment, including computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. 
  • Must be capable of using visual display terminal with continuous wrist movement on a keyboard. 
  • Required to stand for long periods of time. 
  • Required to, talk, hear, walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. 
  • Required to work evenings, weekends and holidays in conjunction with School calendar and events. 
  • Must be able to lift up to 25lbs. without assistance. 
  • Ability to see with normal parameters. 
  • Operates in a professional work environment on campus.
