Description

Most engineers spend their careers optimizing existing processes.
At NuWave, you'll help create them. NuWave develops industrial microwave processing systems used in advanced materials, carbon conversion, drying, recycling, energy transition, resource recovery, and emerging industrial applications.

We work where process engineering, materials science, thermal processing, and commercialization meet. Our projects range from laboratory investigation and pilot-scale development through to deployment of commercial industrial equipment.

We're looking for a Process Engineer who enjoys solving difficult technical challenges and wants to play a meaningful role in developing next-generation industrial technologies.

What You'll Be Working On:
Typical projects may include:
  • Advanced carbon materials.
  • Battery materials.
  • Recycling and circular economy technologies.
  • Biomass processing.
  • Thermal conversion systems.
  • High-temperature material transformation.
  • Industrial drying.
  • Pyrolysis and carbonization.
  • Mining and resource processing.
  • Novel industrial applications of microwave energy.

The Opportunity:
This position is ideal for someone who enjoys both analytical work and hands-on engineering.
You will work across the full development lifecycle:
  • Process development.
  • Experimental design.
  • Pilot testing.
  • Scale-up engineering.
  • Process safety.
  • Equipment commissioning.
  • Customer application development.
  • Commercial deployment.
Unlike many engineering positions, you will have direct visibility into how technical decisions affect commercial outcomes, customer success, and company growth.

Key Responsibilities:
Process Development & Scale-Up:
  • Develop process design bases and engineering calculations.
  • Complete heat and mass balances.
  • Prepare and review PFDs and P&IDs.
  • Develop process concepts and scale-up strategies.
  • Support equipment sizing and specification.
  • Conduct process modeling and technical evaluations.
  • Define operating windows and process requirements.

Testing, Pilot Plants & R&D:
  • Develop and execute experimental programs.
  • Support pilot plant operations and testing.
  • Analyze operating and experimental data.
  • Evaluate process performance and identify improvements.
  • Translate laboratory findings into scalable industrial designs.
  • Support development of new technology applications.
Process Safety:
  • Participate in HAZOPs, process hazard reviews, and risk assessments.
  • Support safe design of thermal processing systems.
  • Evaluate combustible dust, off-gas, and high-temperature process hazards.
  • Develop operating procedures and commissioning plans.
Industrial Deployment:
  • Participate in equipment commissioning and startup.
  • Support customer demonstrations and trials.
  • Work directly with fabricators, vendors, contractors, and customers.
  • Troubleshoot process issues during deployment and operation.

Customer & Commercial Support:
  • Participate in technical customer discussions.
  • Help define technical scopes and development pathways.
  • Support technical proposals.
  • Translate customer challenges into practical process solutions.

We Would Like to Meet Individuals with Experience In:
  • Process engineering.
  • Pilot plant operation.
  • Industrial R&D.
  • Process development.
  • Technology commercialization.
  • Scale-up engineering.
  • Commissioning and startup.
  • Thermal processing.
  • Advanced materials.
  • Chemicals.
  • Energy systems.
  • Mining and resource processing.
  • Battery materials.
  • Recycling technologies.
Required Qualifications:
  • Degree in Chemical Engineering, Process Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Engineering Physics, Materials Engineering, or related discipline.
  • Eligibility for EGBC registration as EIT or P.Eng., or ability to obtain registration.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Particularly Valuable Experience:
Any combination of the following is considered an asset:
  • Pilot plant operation.
  • Process scale-up.
  • Heat and mass balances.
  • Aspen Plus, HYSYS, COMSOL, MATLAB, or similar tools.
  • Experimental design (DOE).
  • Process safety and HAZOPs.
  • Equipment commissioning.
  • Carbon materials.
  • Pyrolysis.
  • Gasification.
  • Drying technologies.
  • Vacuum systems.
  • High-temperature processing.
  • Industrial microwave processing.
  • Advanced materials development.

What Success Looks Like:
Within your first year, you will:
  • Contribute to major customer development projects.
  • Develop process engineering tools and standards.
  • Support customer trials and scale-up programs.
  • Participate in commissioning industrial systems.
  • Become a trusted technical contributor within the organization.
  • Help shape how NuWave commercializes new technologies.

Why Join NuWave:
  • Work on technology that does not yet have established answers
  • Participate in projects from concept to commercialization
  • Collaborate directly with company leadership and technical experts
  • Gain exposure to multiple industries and technologies
  • Have meaningful influence over technical decisions
  • Build expertise in a highly specialized and growing field
  • Join a small team where your contributions are highly visible

A Final Note
Candidates do not need to meet every listed qualification to apply.
We strongly encourage applications from engineers and technology developers with backgrounds in research, pilot plants, industrial operations, process development, or technology commercialization who are excited to solve challenging real-world problems. Please note that only candidates that are selected for review will be contacted.
