Description
Cakum Global is recruiting a Workshop Supervisor - Heavy Diesel Mechanical & Auto Electrical for our client based in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea.
Role Overview:
This is a hands-on expatriate leadership role responsible for the daily operation of a busy fleet maintenance workshop. The Workshop Supervisor will supervise workshop personnel, maintain high safety and quality standards, ensure fleet reliability and availability, control maintenance costs, and develop workshop staff. The role reports to the Workshop Manager and suits an experienced professional who has supervised large mechanical workshops within the transport, logistics, mining, construction or heavy equipment sectors.
Key Responsibilities
Workshop Leadership
Supervise all workshop operations and lead, motivate and develop workshop employees
Plan and allocate daily work and monitor productivity and workshop performance
Provide technical guidance to mechanics and auto electricians
Identify training requirements and conduct toolbox meetings
Maintenance and Technical
Ensure preventative maintenance schedules are achieved and control workshop downtime
Diagnose complex mechanical and electrical faults and manage breakdown repairs
Ensure quality control inspections are completed before vehicles are released
Ensure compliance with manufacturer specifications and company SOPs
Maintain accurate maintenance records and workshop tools and specialised equipment
Safety and Compliance
Promote a strong safety culture and ensure compliance with workplace health and safety requirements
Conduct safety inspections, ensure correct use of PPE and stop unsafe work immediately
Participate in incident and equipment failure investigations and identify workplace hazards
Ensure lifting equipment and workshop tools remain compliant
Cost and Inventory
Manage overtime effectively and support maintenance cost control
Liaise with procurement on spare parts requirements and assist with workshop stock control
Monitor contractor performance where required
Ideal Candidate Profile
Recognised trade certificate as a Heavy Diesel Mechanic (mandatory) - copies of all trade qualifications and certificates must be provided
Additional recognised qualification or proven competency in auto electrical systems (highly desirable)
Minimum 10 years supervisory or management experience in a heavy vehicle workshop
Extensive experience supervising teams of mechanics, auto electricians and apprentices
Demonstrated experience maintaining and repairing heavy trucks, prime movers, trailers, fuel tankers, HOWO trucks, Toyota commercial vehicles, reach stackers, Omega equipment, and UtIlev, Caterpillar and Hyster forklifts
Strong capability across diesel engines, hydraulic systems, air brake systems, steering and suspension, gearboxes and drivelines, electrical and electronic diagnostic systems, air-conditioning and CAN Bus diagnostic equipment
Experience with fleet preventative maintenance programs, fleet maintenance software, maintenance reporting systems and electronic job card systems
Competent in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
Excellent English communication skills and a valid driver's licence (heavy vehicle licence advantageous)
Clean employment and disciplinary record, and the ability to relocate and work in Papua New Guinea
Experience in transport and logistics fleets, container handling equipment, remote operations or prior expatriate assignments will be well regarded
This is an expatriate position based in Port Moresby. The successful applicant must be willing to work in a demanding operational environment and support emergency breakdowns when required. Only applicants who meet the mandatory qualification and experience requirements will be considered.
