UW Information Technology (UW-IT) has an outstanding opportunity for Security Analyst to join their team.
About this Opportunity
Reporting to Technology Manager, the Security Analyst serves as a technical security professional, supporting secure research computing and cloud environments used by the University community. This position is responsible for implementing, administering, and continuously improving security controls across research infrastructure and cloud platforms, with an emphasis on regulated research environments and institutional security requirements. The position works independently and collaboratively with researchers and technical staff to assess security risks, implement security best practices, support compliance initiatives, and develop operational processes that enable secure research computing services. The Security Analyst helps ensure that research services remain secure, reliable, and aligned with institutional and regulatory expectations.

Key Responsibilities
Security Operations (35%)
- Administer security controls for research computing and cloud environments.
- Monitor, evaluate, and improve the security posture of research infrastructure.
- Investigate security issues, coordinate remediation activities, and recommend corrective actions.
Compliance and Risk Management (30%)
- Coordinate security and compliance assessments for research computing environments.
- Interpret regulatory, contractual, and institutional security requirements and translate them into operational practices.
- Collect, organize, and maintain evidence supporting compliance initiatives.
Cloud Security and Secure Research Services (20%)
- Design, administer, and maintain secure cloud environments supporting research activities.
- Provide technical guidance regarding secure cloud architecture, identity management, and access controls.
- Evaluate emerging cloud services and security technologies for institutional adoption.
Consultation, Documentation, and Collaboration (15%)
- Serve as a technical resource for researchers and UW-IT staff regarding security best practices.
- Develop technical documentation, knowledge base articles, and operational procedures.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
·Bachelors degree in Information Management, HCDE, Informatics, Systems Analytics, Cybersecurity and Computer Science or related field or degree or experience and two years' experience in:
·Experience implementing, administering, and supporting cloud security and compliance practices within enterprise or research computing environments.
·Experience supporting or implementing security controls, risk management, or compliance frameworks.
·Strong troubleshooting, communication, and customer service skills.
·Demonstrated technical leadership and architecture experience.
·Demonstrated customer service skills and experience.
·Demonstrated ability to self-train on new products, standards, and applications.
·Demonstrated ability to orally communicate highly technical impacts and procedures to technical and non-technical audiences, including clients, technologists, and other support staff.
·Excellent written communications skills, including service, technical, and support documentation.
·Demonstrated ability to work with minimal supervision, both independently and as part of a team, in a very visible, pressured environment, exercising independent judgment in resolving problems.

Preferred Qualifications
·Experience supporting secure research computing, high-performance computing (HPC), or scientific computing environments.
·Experience with security assessments, vulnerability management, or security operations.
·Experience implementing cloud security best practices in AWS, Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Microsoft Azure, or comparable cloud environments.
·Experience supporting regulated or sensitive research environments.
·Relevant industry certifications (e.g., AWS, Security+, CISSP, CCSP, or comparable certifications).
