We are seeking a Manager - Legal to support Brio Real Estate in India. Brio Real Estate is a Blackstone Real Estate portfolio company focused on real estate credit. Brio supports Blackstone’s Real Estate Debt Strategies (“BREDS”) investments across the globe. The company provides support across key functions, including corporate, transaction, and management services. The critical infrastructure and capabilities Brio provides for BREDS allows for effective support in the management of its global portfolio.

Today, BREDS has more than $76 billion of investor capital across high yield / opportunistic real estate credit funds, a publicly traded Mortgage REIT, and liquid securities strategies. BREDS is part of Blackstone Real Estate, the largest owner of commercial real estate globally, owning and operating assets across every major geography and sector.

Role Purpose:

The Manager - Legal will play a senior, hands-on role in building Brio’s India-based legal, compliance and transaction support function  in Bangalore.. The role supports Blackstone’s global real estate credit platform, working closely with Brio Transaction Counsel in the US and Europe, as well as Brio’s investment, asset management and portfolio management teams.  This position will report to Brio Transaction Counsel in the US and Europe.

This position has a strong lender-side and capital markets real estate credit focus.  The role will involve supporting the origination, execution and ongoing management and loan servicing of complex cross-border real estate financing. This role will be expected to forge substantive relationships throughout Brio, Blackstone and its portfolio companies and partners. It will be essential for the person in this role to possess excellent commercial judgment, an ability to identify and communicate risk clearly and a solutions-driven mindset, to ensure that Blackstone and Brio’s reputation as a reasonable and thoughtful lender is maintained.

 What You Will Do:

• Deliver high quality and clear legal support as an integral part of a legal team; ensure Blackstone’s legal priorities and initiatives are addressed.

• Partner closely with Brio Transaction Counsel on legal support, company initiatives and organization.

• Build, manage and develop Brio’s India-based legal and transaction-support team, including training, mentoring and workload management.

• Provide legal support and guidance, whether in transaction documentation, diligence, or otherwise, including co-ordinating and reviewing multi-jurisdictional legal opinions, ensuring scope, consistency, reliance language and alignment to Blackstone requirements.

• Instruct, manage and evaluate external counsel across jurisdictions, ensuring quality, consistency, responsiveness and cost-discipline.

• Support the preparation of materials for investment committees, including summaries of key legal risks, mitigants and open issues.

• Ensure adherence to internal governance, risk-management and compliance frameworks.

• Develop and maintain precedents, playbooks and knowledge resources covering Real Estate Finance documents, diligence processes and Blackstone legal standards.

What You Should Have:

• Graduate / Post Graduate degree in Law from a reputed institute (Second Upper Class honours and above).

• 10+ years of post-qualification legal experience, including litigation, compliance, contract-review, technical due diligence and transaction services, preferably with in-house experience.

• Experience supporting lender-side Real Estate Finance or Credit transactions, ideally within a global investment manager, credit fund, private equity firm or top-tier law firm.

• Team management experience, including experience managing and developing junior team members.

• Resourceful self-starter, routinely taking initiative.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.

• Exceptional attention to detail.

• Team player that can thrive and lead in a fast-paced, high-volume, results-oriented work environment.

• Willingness to work in a cross-border environment, including working across time zones with the Blackstone and Brio US and Europe teams.

• Excellent organizational, project management and stakeholder management skills.

• Flexibility to adapt to evolving business strategies, depending on market dynamics.

• Experience working and negotiating within a variety of commercial matters (transactions, leases, financings, etc.).
